Maelstrom was formed in 2004 by Wull Hay and Scott Simpson as a 2-man project that was never intended for live performance. During 2004, the pair recorded their first self-titled demo. In 2005, it was decided that a full line-up would need to be found. The band was completed with the arrival of drummer Donnie Temple, and bassist Chris Cameron.
