Bio

Blend modern Rap and all the original ideas of Hip-Hop, &the product is Mac Nitti. This Rochester, NY artist is what most would call a ‘positive rapper’. But Mac likes to think of himself as a Socially Aware poet; a poet that puts situations faced by inner-city residents to music so that those who listen to him will be enlightened and aware.

About

His new album, Still Addicted, is passionate about social and economic betterment for the poor and neglected, while still proving his lyrical ability.

Since his teenage years, Mac has found it easy to write rhymes that reflect his environment; situations he witnessed first hand, or situations others in the ghetto were facing.  He came from a middle class family and grew up in the inner city. “I grew up in a close family.  I remember my mom playing Aretha Franklin and Earth,Wind & Fire.  My dad played Sam Cook and Mahalia Jackson.  So I was exposed to a variety of soulful music.  But that was my parent’s music.  I wanted my own.

Mac would find his own music in songs like La Di Da Di, and I Need Love. “I was hooked. I ate Hip-Hop up!  Anyone that had KRS-ONE or Just-ICE, I dubbed a copy.  Finally, my own music.”

Mac Nitti grew up in the ghetto.  “Sure, I had a structured family.  But I saw what drugs did to our community.  The poverty and the torn families.  Hip-Hop was a way to vent.  All of Hip-Hop; rap, graffiti, dancing, slang; were tools for expression and venting.  So I used it for that. It’s in me to crack a joke when I can to lighten up a tense moment, so from time to time I throw some comedy in my rhymes. At the same time, my rhymes are very serious. Feel me?”

Mac Nitti began Pyramid Entertainment in ‘07, the same time he started recording his 1st album. When he started Pyramid Entertainment, Mac was more focused on producing for other artists & when he had down time, he would record a song or two. After about 5 songs were recorded, a friend asked why he didn’t release his own album. Good question.

Before he knew it, Mac Nitti had produced a complete album. ‘Addicted to This’ contains a mixture of party songs & songs focused on the ills faced in inner-city. The album was sold at the 2007 BOULDERFEST in Rochester & sold 200+ copies. Through the Pyramid Entertainment website, the album sold 100+ copies to fans in Texas, Detroit, Alabama, & of course Rochester, NY. Because of the success of his first album, Mac decided to launch a follow-up CD, titled Still Addicted. His focus is still the social ills of the “lower class” residents of the country, but he also wanted to show that he can hang with the rappers of today. Still Addicted was produced by Mac & features local Rochester artists, Houston Texas rapper, Katie Tropp, & Profisi Culcha from Jamaica .

To date, Still Addicted has sold more copies than any other album released by Pyramid Entertainment. The hit single, 'Gimme Me Lift feat Profisi Culcha' is in demand at radio stations in the UK & with this, Mac Nitti is very pleased. “I just want to do what I can to make hip-hop that educates. I don’t want the kids to think that it’s always about violence, drugs, & sex. If that’s your reality, cool, but it’s not that way for everyone. My biggest challenge is the radio. I’m up against a lot of artists that promote black on black crime & drug sales; the radios eat it up, cause that’s what sells. It’s a business, so I understand. I just hope they will give artists like me a chance to make the people think about what’s going on & who’s the blame for the situations they’re in.”

Mac Nitti is not sure how far he’ll go as an artist, but he is sure of one thing, “No matter how far I go or what I do, I'll always rep Rochester , NY , & always do what I can to address the situations of the People.”
