About

      Lina Tonia was born in Alexandria, Greece, in 1985. She started music studies at the age of six. From 2005 to 2008 she studied composition close to Professor Christos Samaras, at the Department of Music, Faculty of Fine Arts in Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

      She has been participating in National and International composition competitions acquiring 9 prizes at the following competitions: Composition Competition of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki 2005, Music Festival Friends of Music in Athens 2005, Workshop for Young Composers in Patra 2006, Music Festival Friends of Music in Athens 2006, Jurgenson International Composition Competition 2007 in Moscow, International Composition Competition IVAN SPASSOV 2007 in Plovdiv/Bulgaria, Greek Opera Festival 2008 Thessaloniki, Workshop for young composers 2008 Thessaloniki, International competition for young composers TON DE LEEUW 2008 in Tirana.

She was awarded with the title of “Young composer 2008” from the Union of Greek Music and Theatre Critic.

She was awarded with the scholarship "Triantafilia Kriezi" (2002 - 2007) and also with AEPI scholarship - Union of Greek Composers (2008 - 2009). 

She is a PHD student in composition in Edinburgh University close to Professor Nigel Osborne.
