More About The Artist

Something fascinating and unexplainable happens when music and lyric come together to form a new marriage – a song.  Countless singers and songwriters work out ideas day after day, the same ideas, concepts and themes, told and sung uniquely different to maintain the freshness of life in music.

Enter Keven Daken.  Keven has revealed his special talent to make the marriage of music and lyric work – and work well.  With radio success as a songwriter under his belt, with chart hits by John Landry, Jamie Warren and Colin Amey; Keven is giving his own voice to his lyrics with the long awaited debut CD, “Going through the Motions”, which will be headed for store shelves in late 2008 / early 2009.

Keven was born in Springhill, Nova Scotia, hometown to Canadian and International Music legend, Anne Murray.  Growing up in Oxford, Nova Scotia grounded Keven and brought him some hardships and good times, all life lessons and great material for songwriting.

At the age of 14, Keven bought his first electric guitar and started practicing up to 3 hours a day – literally until his fingers bled.  Between school, hockey, basketball and girls, Keven still found time for his guitar.  By the age of 18, Keven was playing in the three piece blues/rock band, Amphora; however, Keven had a burning desire to create his own music and tell his own stories.  At this point songwriting kicked in and from that point on songwriting has stuck with him through the good times and bad, the hard times and the fast times.

In the fall of 2000, Keven, his fiancée Lori, and their newborn Faith, packed up and moved to Ontario to chase the dream.  It was a huge decision and a tough one to make – the sacrifice of chasing an elusive music career.

On a cold January day in 2001, Keven and Lori shipped out 25 demo CDs to Singers, Songwriters, Managers, and others in the music industry to try and get a break, to find just a crack in an open door to get the ball rolling.  Out of the 25 CD’s, Keven received 1 response to his music.  John Landry, a well-known Canadian artist, called Keven and left a voice mail indicating that he had received his mail himself that day and in his mailbox was Keven’s CD.  John decided to pop the CD in his truck stereo and have a listen.  John was impressed enough with Keven’s voice and writing to place the call that allowed Keven entry into the exclusive club that is professional songwriting.

In 2002, John released his sophomore album ‘Bottom of the Ninth’; the title song the result of Keven and John’s first writing session.  It was official; Keven Daken had arrived.

In the fall of 2003, Keven was officially introduced to Rick Hutt, legendary music producer and multiple award winner.  Rick agreed to assist Keven with honing his singing and with that, Keven and Lori went into the music business fulltime, both leaving their jobs and pursuing their dream.  With the assistance of an investment, all was going as planned with both Keven and Lori doing their recording with Rick, but just as things were starting to come together, the investment hit a pot hole and threw the couple off the road to their musical dream.  Left with no money, no job and a CD half finished, the pair were forced to go back to work and try to climb back out of the doldrums.

After 3 years of hard work and perseverance, they are back and Keven is ready to present his craft to the world.  Lori will soon follow with her debut CD, as yet untitled.

In today’s world, marriages and relationships end as often as they start, and although these two have seen some of the worst case scenarios life can throw at you, they have perservered through all that advertisy and have come out the other side with each other and their career back in full swing.
