More About The Artist
Creating a startling combination of poetic lyrics and moving melodies, writer Kelcy Wilburn became the artist Kelcy Mae in 2004. Kelcy Mae's music is a combination of acoustic folk and indie rock. With enchanting melodies and unique lyrics, she demands the audience's attention at every show.
Kelcy Mae was born in Shreveport, Louisiana, on St. Patrick's Day, 1983. She was raised in Shreveport, surrounded by an inherently musical family. At the urging of her mother, Kelcy began playing piano at the age of six, and these early years of playing piano laid the foundation for her musical career. She later picked up the trumpet at age ten and guitar and bass guitar at age fourteen. During her high school years, Kelcy began showing great interest in poetry and chose to pursue writing at Loyola University New Orleans.
During college, Kelcy Mae found that by combining her love for the English language with her innate passion for music, she could give audiences a fresh new sound, something relatively uncommon in the seemingly corporate cookie-cutter world of music. During her time at Loyola University New Orleans, Wilburn found her voice, and Kelcy Mae found her audience. A New Orleans-based artist, she performs regularly around the city and the state, playing such festivals as New Orleans’s French Quarter Festival and Shreveport’s Red River Revel Arts Festival.
Kelcy, who sings and plays acoustic guitar and piano, is commonly backed by Bad Andy on lead guitar, Lucy Cordts on banjo and background vocals , Owen Romero on bass guitar, and Sam Gentle on percussion.
