Katharine WhalenMySpaceFacebookTwitterWatchLinksKatharine Whalen and Her Fascinators create a unique blend of electric folk music, breathing life into songs that Katharine began writing while still a member of Squirrel Nut Zippers. Local music veterans Nathan Golub (guitar, pedal steel) and Will Dawson (bass, piano, vibraphone) team with Brad Porter (drums) to round out this incredible quartet of accomplished musicians and songwriters. CURTIS ELLER'S AMERICAN CIRCUSWebsiteMySpaceFacebookTwitterLinksA BRIEF HISTORY OF THE AMERICAN CIRCUS: "Having spent a decade toiling away in the musical sweatshops of New York City, banjo player and songwriter, Curtis Eller has resettled in Durham NC where he is diligently pursuing his goal of becoming America's leading purveyor of songs about Elvis Presley and Richard Nixon. The wild-eyed vaudevillian's banjo-driven, rock & roll songs describe a dreamlike vision of American history where all points in time have collapsed into one. Past recordings have seen a ghastly parade of historical luminaries, from Abraham Lincoln and Buster Keaton to Amelia Earhart and Joe Louis, sharing the spotlight with a host of Civil War generals and corrupt 19th century politicians. The latest incarnation of the band has spent a year sharpening their skills in the burlesque houses, beer halls and underground theatres of the Carolina Piedmont. They'll be hoisting their tent at The Evening Muse in Charlotte for a night of circus mayhem." Gasoline StoveChapel Hill Singer/songwriter/novelist Scott Morgan picks up where Memphis the Band leaves off, joined by former band mates Pete Lucey (accordion, piano, backing vocals) and Shannon Culp Morgan (vocals/percussion), and Anthony Lener on upright bass. This 17-song roots-music album includes,"admirable Dylan and Waits homages," and is a "sneakily superb debut," from this Memphis the Band offshoot, Gasoline Stove," (Quotes Rick Cornell from The Independent Weekly).

““Madly Love is always rewarding. If you want an easy reference point, imagine a less contrived She & Him, with Southern grit taking the place of all the coyness. Sounds pretty good, doesn’t it?””
