Bio
Karl Morgan is a soulful blues guitarist, singer and songwriter whose inspiring talent is reminiscent of the powerful blues artists of the 60's and 70's. He hails from the west coast city of Perth, in Western Australia. It was clear from an early age that Morgan possessed rare musical talent. This talent was nurtured with the help of his mother, a music teacher. A natural singer, it was around the age of 15 that he realized his talents were special and he had more to offer the world. Shortly after, he picked up a classical guitar and began teaching himself basic chords. A key point in Morgan’s musical evolution was his introduction to the music of Eric Clapton, which fueled his passion and ultimately led to the development of his own musical style. It became his life's ambition to master the three elements which Clapton continues to evolve so eloquently: singing, songwriting and of course, playing the guitar with great agility. Morgan has since toured the Australian West Coast playing both acoustically and with his band.
In 2004 Morgan journeyed to Sydney's 301 Studios and, with limited time and funds, recorded tracks for his demo. The demo sparked the interest of fellow West Australian Craig Cumming, founder of Pied Piper Records in Nashville TN. Morgan was offered a record deal and in the summer of 2006, was added to the label’s roster. With Pied Piper now behind him, Morgan ventured back to Sydney in late 2006 to finish what he had begun two years prior. With ARIA Award-Winning Anton Hagop (Silverchair, Powderfinger) in the Engineer’s chair, as well as some of the finest blues and jazz players in Australia alongside him, Morgan finished recording in Sydney's Origami and Electric Avenue Studios to complete his impressive debut album, the equally rocking and soulful Talkin' With the Hands.
Morgan penned all but one of the tunes on his debut release, which is a rich mix of incendiary rock & roll, authentic acoustic blues, folk and soul. Morgan brilliantly reinterprets an old classic with a visceral and brooding guitar rendition of Bobby Hebb’s R&B hit, Sunny. The first single, Hold Me Where I Lay, is an instant hit, exposing the artist's vulnerable side. Morgan says the single gave him the opportunity to express thoughts of mortality and the meaning of one's life. Morgan says ultimately, "When we die, the fact of our having been loved by someone is the only real thing of consequence." The track's smooth, sensual vocals combined with the solo, yet powerful, acoustic folk guitar, will leave fans yearning for more of the very relatable Karl Morgan.
Pied Piper is currently planning Karl Morgan's 2008 US tour which fans will not want to miss. The creative energy that comes out of the improvised moments of the live performance makes every show unique, powerful and truly inspiring. Karl Morgan offers irrefutable proof that the Blues, the great progenitor of modern music, continues to drive contemporary music with its rhythm, tone, and above all, heart and soul. Listen closely, and witness the return of the blues guitar...the return of soul.
