More About The Artist
Driven by an extreme passion for music, this 18-year-old singer/songwriter/guitarist/pianist beautifully sings well-crafted and heartfelt acoustic-pop that synthesizes her wide-range of influences(from ska to country to indie-rock); thus creating a highly catchy as well as unique sound that appeals to people of all ages and genre preferences.
I seem to be writing in third person.....
From putting together 8-piece ska band, to covering John Denver and Jewel; From belting out Arethra Franklin-esque stylings in a kangaroo costume, to being the frontwoman to an alt-pop band for PCA; From getting 20 dollar tips while singing karaoke, to somewhat mastering an irish accent: Kailey is an artist that is not to be forgotten, and one who will always surprise you!
Kailey Billings is a college freshman who has been singing since she could talk. I assure you, there are home videos of Kailey in 1992 singing Christmas carols into a brand new plug-in microphone she got for Christmas (there is also footage of her pushing her younger sister, Kelsey, out of the way whenever she tried to join in). Kailey performed in her first musical at age 4, and made up a song at age 5 called "the Bread Song". She would perform this song to get free bread at Outback Steakhouse. As you can see, She developed her passion for music at a very very early age, and it all went downhill from there. Since 1994, Kailey has performed in many touring troupes such as the Civic Kids, Next Generation Kids and The Pop Shop. She has performed at many venues such as The Walk for Cures for Multiple Sclerosis, Sea World, The Asthma Walkathon, The Winter Park Annual Christmas Parade, Movie-ola, The Women’s Convention, Disney World, Rollins College, Give Kids the World, Lake Highland Prep, The Bob Carr, Tatame Lounge, Austin's Coffee, Infusion Tea, Barnie's Coffee, Volcano's, and Talent Shows. She also frequents local Open Mic Nights. She was recently featured in an internet segment by ThePalestra (where they promoted talent from all over the country). She sings the heck out of the National Anthem at baseball games, lacrosse games, basketball games, etc. She has been called "The Voice of the National Anthem." She was asked to sing the anthem for the Orange County Special Olympics 2 years in a row. She has also performed at 2 different Atlanta Braves games. A few of her favorite recent performances were at the Florida Music Festival 2008 @ The CityArts Factory, and on UMTV's Musical Expressions (where she won the first episode). She is having a blast continuing her musical career at the University of Miami. She is hoping to gain more experience and grow as an artist:D
Her song "Futures" is currently being featured on Illumina Records' "Rocker's For Life 2007" CD Compilation for the Miami Edition. She is an activist, using her music to spread the message of "Don't Drink and Drive!"
Though new to the city of Miami/Coral Gables, Kailey has already started booking local shows and is commuting to continue performing in her hometown of Orlando. She is also an apprentice in the A&R Dept. of Cane Records at UMiami. She is enjoying getting to know that side of the music business.
Kailey is currently acting and singing in a short film, "Road To Joy," at UM, directed by Jeff Meurer.
