More About The Artist

David J Yurkiewicz was born on the island of Puerto Rico on July 7, 1987. When he was just a young child, he found himself to be very interested in music, especially in the underground movement that was beginning to extend around the country. From this underground movement came a very important and inspiring influence Vico C, who considered by most is the founding father of Spanish rap.

In the year 1998 JYR moved to the United States, and music was still his passion. He had a dream to be a part of music, to release his own form and style. At that moment it was only a dream and nothing more. It seemed as if it would never happen. As time went on, a new genera of music called Reggaeton began to appear in the states, this captured his attention. By early 2000 JYR was involved in many personal productions, such as, mix tapes and DJ-ing at events.

By mid 2005 JYR was involved in many more events and was even apart of community events with a local radio station. All the events and mix tapes got him known as a DJ, but this was not his main goal. By 2006 he decided to start recording, producing, and experimenting with different types of music. He heavily studied different music movements in the early 60's, 70's and 80's. His goal in music production was to produce a new sound. Some of his biggest influences became to be Jimmy Hendrix, Bob Marley, and many in the 1998 Pop/Rock era.

As time went on he got to know more and more about music in the past. He lost love for the underground movement he was born in.  The goal of producing a new sound would not have worked if he would have accepted the main stream music that there was at the moment. By the end of the year he had recorded a few singles, but it still was not what he truly sought after.

In 2007 his goal was to produce a new solo album called “For the Love.” This title represents one of his personal mottos; “Do music for the love and not for the fame.”

With the little money he had he constructed a low budget studio, and now the dream he thought was out of reach seemed very possible. He has spent most of 2007 finalizing this dream.

Currently the album is set to be released in the spring of 2008.  Now that his dream is in the process of being finalized he hopes that it will bring a new standard in today's music, and it will be a motivation to others to sound “Different and not the same.”
