Bio

Imagine a small town country boy living in the big city. Sounds like a wacky sitcom, huh? Well, if this story described a style of music, then you have Justin Davis. He’s born and raised in east Alabama, and began performing live at a very young age. He played his first solo show at the age of sixteen. Since then, he’s been up the East Coast to North Carolina and back home again, spreading the word of his music to anyone who will listen-- and a few who didn’t.

About

Justin Davis was born in Anniston, Alabama on July 14, 1981 to Don and Mandy Davis. He grew up in Cleburne County, Alabama, graduating from Ranburne High School in 1999. From there he moved about forty-five minutes up the road to Jacksonville, Alabama, where he attended Jacksonville State University. He spent three years with the nationally acclaimed Marching Southerners as a trombone player, as well as participating in university and community choirs.

Justin's love for music started at a very early age. He played trombone and baritone in his high school band, was a member of his church choir, and participated in theater. But his first love was always guitar. His first performance was in Ranburne at the school's annual Fun Day fundraiser.

While in college, Justin met Glenn Davenport, a singer/songwriter from Wellborn, Alabama. The two collaborated on several music projects, the two most notable being Traveling Acoustic Duo and Savalt. With Savalt, Justin and Glenn toured east Alabama, playing at some of the most historic venues in the state.

After college, Justin started his career as a solo artist. In the summer of 2005, he traveled to Ocracoke Island, North Carolina, on a family vacation. It was there where he met Gary Mitchell, a singer/songwriter, producer, and owner of Soundside Records. He spent three days in Gary's studio, recording his first EP, titled "The Ocracoke Sessions." Joined by renowned percussionist Jubal Creech, he recorded five songs, which were released in February 2006. It was during his time on the island that Justin discovered the kind of soulful acoustic folk music that would change the kind of artist he wanted to become.

In December of 2007 Justin released an acoustic EP that was recorded at what is now known as The StreetLight. This CD also had five songs, but produced a much more mellow sound than "The Ocracoke Sessions" had. The acoustic EP also featured a song written by Dane Birdyshaw called "Wishing It Was You." This song was a tribute to Dane's passing in late 2007.

Justin is currently at work producing his first full-length album, entitled "Head Above The Water," which as of this writing has not been issued a release date. The album will feature several brand new songs, as well as re-written and re-mastered versions of previously released material.
