The Awesome God Festival received its roots in 1997 when 18 churches came together to begin a community youth ministry for high school and college age. This became known as the Upper Room Ministry in Historic Downtown Statesville. Over the last 14 years the coffeehouse and band venue setting has hosted hundreds of bands and speakers, several of which are now national, including Building 429, Disciple, Need to Breathe, Carl Cartee, Brad Borders and Clayton King. In addition numerous decisions for Christ have been been made and countless people encouraged with their walk in the Lord. The Awesome God Festival is an opportunity for people of all ages to experience this same welcoming hospitality and Christ centered ministry in a festival setting. Matthew 15 describes Jesus and His disciples ministering and sharing fellowship together when more than 4000 were fed. The Awesome God Festival desires to see the Holy Spirit work in the same manner with the focus on spiritually feeding a multitude and providing an opportunity for awesome fellowship.
