About
..::: Who's This Average Joe? :::..
Like most of you, I have been singing since before I can remember. However, I really began to take music seriously in high school- humming down hallways, echoing my voice off stairways, and scratching lyrics on the back of test reviews and handouts in between my classes. During study hall, my ear buds were blasting, taking my mind and focus elsewhere, onto the musical dreams I was always afraid of pursuing.
After graduating High School, I tried to cast musical dreams aside. I was on my way to Miami University, to collect scholarship money and fight my way into the business world. But songwriting fought harder, back into my everyday academic life, turning my study nights into "songwriting all-nighters." I was once again preoccupied with phrases and rhymes, and transformed into a starry-eyed observer, viewing every opportunity as a potential song.
Left alone to my imaginings and the everyday adventure of creating the perfect song, inevitably, my college study habits were less than habitual. Eventually I realized that there was a full-out war waging between academia and music, and that I would never get my calculus homework done unless I got my head clear. Thus, I faced my war, decided which side I was fighting for, and came back home to Columbus, to rally the troops for the war to come. When the smoke clears, genuine music will prevail; guitar-in-hand, I hope to be on the front lines of it all.
I believe in music that speaks to the soul, written by those whose souls have been stirred by a beautiful melody. I am here to learn, to grow, to inspire, and to connect with others who share love for expression through art.
The internet provides us with wonderful means of art distribution; we have the ability to search an entire town, an entire city for music that fits our interest without moving an inch. Though I may appear to be another one of those "destined to fail" independent artists, I believe fully that those who pursue their dreams and passions will be the happiest people alive. There's more to life than monetary riches, and I'd give it all away anyways if I had it, so I might as well pursue what I love.
One thing I am sure- once you have experienced the richness of a music written with heart and soul, you may never be able to drive down the street and listen contently to a mainstream melody again. There may come a point where mainstream music will not satisfy your thirst for genuine expression. You may find yourself searching parts of town you never knew existed, sitting next to people of all shapes, smells, and sizes, in coffee shops with hundreds of different drinks you have never tasted, craving a fresh, real sound. My goal and desire is to put this sound in your head and a put a spring in your step, whoever you are, wherever you are. Allow me to introduce you to a world of music unlike anything you have ever experienced.
