Bio
Jim's singing and songwriting is some of the best in acoustic music today. He easily and gracefully moves from Folk to Jazz to Blues without missing a beat. His lyrics are heartfelt, authentic tales of everyday life that can’t be expressed in any other way.
His songs are “about living life through different phases of growth that I think everybody goes through at one point or another. Sometimes music is the only way to express real emotions.”
About
Hello,
Thank you for visiting my page. I hope you enjoy the music...Here's a little about me, if you're so inclined....
I currently live in Augusta, GA, and have nearly all my life, with the exception of residing in Casper, WY for the fall and winter of 2000-2001. I always loved to sing in church and wherever there was music was where I wanted to be. I began playing guitar and writing songs in college and that's when the bug bit me...the overwhelming yearning to play in front of crowds, no matter how large or small...complete strangers to friends. (Now some of those strangers have become some of my favorite people:)
I started booking shows at age 25 in coffee shops my hometown and a few in the southeast...I put out my first album in 2002. Later that year I hooked up with a NAMB group called World Changers and led worship/played in a few places all the way from Nashville,TN to Oakville, ONT, Canada. I came back to Augusta and re-adjusted to home life, all the while wanting to play music, write, and quit the day job. I started entering label/talent competitions and did very well although I had way fewer years under my belt performing than did the winners. I did well, with my most notable finish in the top 5 out of 75,000+ entrants. I came to the realization that, in order to play my original tunes, I had to learn covers and earn my way through the restaurants and bars...and I began gaining a small but loyal audience in Augusta and played over 220 shows in 2006!! Was very exciting....but still just a start.
I did more of the same in 2007 and started writing again. I had the opportunity to go to Nashville twice and have a few meet-n-greets with a really talented writer and a couple label execs. I was beyond nervous, but felt at home. They told me these two things: 1. I had some really good songs but needed to write as many as I could and keep in touch....2. One label executive said, and I quote: "If I thought you needed to cut grass for a living, I'd tell you to buy a lawnmower...keep writing and get back with me." (lol...enough said.)
Now it's 2008 and I'm still gigging....I've had the opportunity to share the stage with Jennifer Daniels, Angie Aparo, and...MOST RECENTLY...Ken Block & Drew Copeland of Sister Hazel, Nashville Star Chris Young, and Doug Jones of Cravin Melon...had a blast...:)
