About
“Don't Think Outside the Box – Bust It Open!” – Ja-Tun
Ja-Tun, an upcoming singer/ songwriter/ spoken word artist who goes against the grain provides a medium for other artists to collaborate across geographical and musical borders through MusicBuilder.Org.
With “Fire”, her brand new single, it's easy to believe Ja-Tun is another smooth, soulful R&B artist following the sounds of Roberta Flack or Sade. But beneath the surface lie funk rock jams like “Get It Together” and alternative tracks like “Walk Away”. From the sensual favorite, “Slice of My Mind” to her socially conscious Gil Scott Heron twist, “This Revolution”, Ja-Tun's spoken word is as varied as her music and no less engaging. One fan remarks after seeing her perform: “[Ja-Tun] drew me in. I was captivated.”
Her mother, renowned journalist and blogger, Kim Pearson, began playing Chopin to her womb before Ja-Tun was born and she has gravitated to quality music from all genres as long as she can remember. Appearing in her first professional production at age 8, Ja-Tun pursued classical musical training through violin, clarinet, bass clarinet, piano, school choirs and theater productions. CDs from Earth, Wind, and Fire, Nina Simone, Billie Holiday, Stevie Wonder, Chaka Khan and Rufus rotated in playlists with Santana Zap Mama(7), Anjelique Kidjoe, Fela Ransome Kuti, Miriam Makeba, Sweet Honey in the Rock. Once Ja-Tun was old enough to purchase her own music, she added the sounds of Lisa Loeb, Alanis Morrisette, Green Day, Hootie, Dave Matthews Band and Smashing Pumpkins. “There's no way I could try to limit myself to one genre. It wouldn't be me.” – Ja-Tun
Thanks to Ja-Tun, other upcoming artists no longer have to either. MusicBuilder.Org is described by one member as “a big industry phone book. I love it!” Labels can find interns, management can find new talent, venues can find show photographers, promoters discover new graphic artists and solo artists like Russian Rullet, can find producers.
Russian Rullet was completing his debut album and working on a project with MTV until he ran into a problem: he lacked enough sample-free material to meet his deadline. Ja-Tun and MusicBuilder.Org came to his rescue connecting him with several producers including Mr. J, an innovative cross-genre producer from Germany with over 2,000 beats in his arsenal looking to working with like-minded talent at an unbeatable rate!
In return, Ja-Tun asks for nothing more than a referral from those who enjoy the site. She stays occupied running a consulting business for upcoming artists and by performing full time. For more information on Ja-Tun, her business and Project S.O.N., please visit MusicBuilder.Org.
