Ninkasi Present Sunday Night Jazz at the Blue Monk is a weekly series featuring local jazz talent. July 10th is the James M Gregg Quintet, featuring JMG's unique blend of jazz, rock, avant-garde and pop. The Quintet includes Andrew Oliver (p), Neil Mattson (g), Sam Howard (b) and Kevin VanGeem (d).
James M. Gregg returns to Tony Starlight's with a new quartet and a new sound. Blending jazz with rock and pop, the show will feature original instrumental and vocal compositions and a handful of "revisited" standards from the Great American Songbook. In a tradition stretching from Miles Davis through Jon Hassell and contemporary artists such as Christian Scott, Cuong Vu, Esperanza Spalding and Sachal Vasandani, James extends the tonal palette of his trumpet and extends the language of jazz with an interesting and inventive set.
