Like if Satan was totally weilding a gleaming battle-axe in one hoof and held a vinyl copy of 'Master of Reality' in the other, his mighty goat legs held aloft as he ascended ever skyward on the back of a dragon that was on fire as the world beneath him was rent asunder by a black hole tsunami, simultaneously crushing under dark walls of water and suffering the mind-boggling torments of spaghettification, it would almost be as heavy as The Ruiner.   New drawings and installations by Ryan McGennisken. ‘She’s the Moon; Perception in the absence of stimulus’ Gippsland born and raised artist Ryan McGennisken’s debut solo show in Melbourne promises to be his most exciting exhibition to date. Ryan is a wanderer by nature and hasn’t had a fixed abode for over a year and a half. He recently returned from travelling in Europe, where he completed an artist residency in rural Finland, followed by a three month stay in Berlin where alongside his partner and collaborator Hollie M Kelley, held a successful exhibition in December 2012 at the iconic building; ‘The WYE’. Titled the Finnish word, ‘Matka’ which translates to ‘journey’, The show was influenced by the duo’s stay in Finland where Ryan’s own artistic ‘Journey’ was commencing. The time spent abroad propelled Ryan into a completely new direction and style with a deeper and darker subject matter. In this new stunning body of work, ‘She’s the moon; Perception in the absence of stimulus’, Ryan explores mental illness in women, in particular hallucinations associated with schizophrenia. His drawings describe scenarios of hallucinations that are suspended between ambiguous states of fear and comfort, leaving the viewer to determine the circumstance. The ideas for this exhibition spawned only naturally as Ryan grew up surrounded by mental illness of family members and living in the neighbourhood of Gippsland’s largest Psychiatric Hospital. Since it’s closure it was instinctual for him to explore the old halls and wards, gaining a real sense of what it would be like to be committed and bringing the images of his Aunt’s stories to life. *HOTEL WRECKING CITY TRADERS on stage at 8PM

  DUMB NUMBERS is the new band project for Geelong-born musician and film maker Adam Harding. Now based in Los Angeles, Dumb Numbers is an international collaboration of biblical proportions, featuring members of Dinosaur Jr, Melvins, Sebadoh, Best Coast, Emperor X, Useless Children, Magic Dirt and Dead River. Australian tour line-up features Adam Harding with Murph from Dinosaur Jr, Steve Patrick from Useless Children and Bonnie Mercer from Dead River. BODIES are the sonic equivalent of two boulders drunkenly fighting in quicksand. Burdensome riffs. They've played with bands such as Midget/Nation Blue/Blacklevel Embassy/SixFtHick/The Meanies/Splatterheads/Budd and a million other bands. They've toured New Zealand with brothers in arms Batpiss and have a split 7" coming out soon. BODIES are a fire started by a careless match, an ambulance in a car crash, a strange day, two trains fucking, a dog that bites, a broken lightbulb, a busted knee, an open wound, a cross to bear, an empty gesture, an unfinished letter, a harsh word, a dropped elbow, a rusty tin. BODIES are a shark made out of mud. A toothless grin. Gravel and granite. HOTEL WRECKING CITY TRADERS - After a 10 date tour of Japan in late 2012, a series of collaborative shows around Melbourne, two well received split releases with Desert Rock royalty, all receiving glowing reviews - HWCT return to The Public Bar with their good buddy Adam Harding and his new dirge quartet DUMB NUMBERS. CLAIRE BIRCHALL has been making music, writing songs and recording them since the mid '90s, took up guitar at 13, and recording on 4-track cassette at 17, where she became a prolific songwriter and recorder. She released her debut solo album ‘captain captain’ in 2001, and also plays in bands Paper Planes and The Happy Lonesome. Claire has just launched her second solo album 'PP', out now on Night Owl Records.
