“Honey Tower is electro producer from Germany. She chooses to remain anonymous so her music can do the talking. And, boy, does it talk. She’s just released a new EP ‘Metamorphosen’, and it’s a mini album of sorts. Two tracks in particular caught our ear, and not because they’re filthy bangers, which they most certainly are, but because of the way she balances industrial rawness with flourishes of melody. ‘Entre Chien Et Loup’ can be best described as a progressive house track that’s been fed through a gas turbine. It’s actually a really clever track, too, especially the way the lighter and darker elements are balanced. ‘L’Abeille’ is darker and harder with a lot of different sounds fighting for your attention — and yes, it can be overwhelming at times — but the flecks of samples, snatches of synths and peculiar noises all give the track a level of detail, depth and texture that’s often missing from a lot of today’s bangers. More of this, please.”
“[...] Honey Tower's music is interesting, eclectic and full of attitude, blending in various genres in order to create something truly personal, compelling and unique. The sound can be melodic and appealing, yet very experimental and refreshingly unpredictable.[...] Sonically speaking, this might be Honey Tower’s darkest-sounding release to date. The atmospheres are haunting, nocturnal and very atmospheric, particularly borrowing from the artist’s love for organic, gritty and texture-driven production. The atmosphere of this album is also tied in really well with the concept of the release itself, making for a well-rounded and accomplished sound, combining with clever, poetic and inspired concepts, under the scope of edgy and experimental electronic music.”
“Mystery is the thing that makes our lives exciting, and is what keeps us looking for more. German electro producer Honey Tower brings just that in the music scene. Her latest six track EP “METAMORPHOSEN” is a touch of mystery and pure electro energy. The first track from the EP named “L'ABEILLE” is a pure growl-energetic electronic banger with strong and rather powerful steady 4/4 drum pattern. The second track of the EP is “COUTURE” this track has a stunning drum pattern with a touch of haunting reverb, supported by robotic vocals which give the track a modern-like feel. [...] “ENTRE CHIEN ET LOUP” is the fifth track of the EP, this track features some ambience lead with a feel of metal and some stunning crushing drums that makes it feel like a techno blast from the past. This one is definitely our favourite track of the EP as it seems like an automatic club hit. [.. ] Overall, the EP is very well executed and thought out. This has to be some of the best work by Honey”
"Couture is the sort of industrial electro that would have been at home in the soundtracks of either the Matrix or – for those who remember it – Hackers. It’s a pretty bad ass track; rumbling, robotic and firmly underground in its sensibilities. This is my first exposure to Honey Tower, but I’ll be keeping an eye out for the German’s future works."
“Dandy, an eight track extravaganza of genre-defying electronic music is a hidden gem of a release. This German artist pulls no punches when creating this album. From the heavy drum beats, to the sub bass, all the way to the industrial-esque synths. This is the type of music you would want to hear in an abandoned factory rave, an art exhibit, or when you want to feel dark and dirty on any day of the week. Particular tracks that spoke to us were GEGEN DEN STRICH for it's moody sub-bass and haunting synths, EIFFEL 1912 for its face breaking electro, and RAVE DU CHATEAU for it's nearly perfect aesthetic in sound. Overall, the mastering and compression of the album is top notch and we at CPGmag would highly recommend DANDY for you and your friends to listen to. [...] In short, this album has an hard time of getting old and we think it should be on the look out list for DJ's and fans.”
“German act Honey Tower is managing to stir quite a buzz within the music blogosphere thanks to her blend of electronica. [...] Since her debut in 2012, Honey Tower has been hailed as one of Germany’s most promising electronic artists, displaying a truly visceral approach to her songwriting and production. [...] “Dandy” showcases the artist’s desire to never stand still and stretch out with a constantly changing raft of ideas: this isn’t only an apparent quality of the music, but also of the lyrical content, as Honey Tower filled this EP with clever references to “dandyism” and the literary, philosophic and historical impact that it had on our culture. [...] The clever concept is complemented by Honey Tower’s trademark gritty production approach: everything sounds genuine, raw and real – The entire EP echoes Steampunk / Cyberpunk aesthetics thanks to the tantalizing contrast of 19th century imagery and themes clashing with some the most forward-thinking electronica.”
“What does it mean to be a dandy? Well, for starters, it means to have a great sense of style; to be able to recognise beauty and leave by its standard. This is exactly what Honey Tower set out to achieve with her blend of sound. Her approach to production is refreshingly minimalistic, yet the relatively sparse elements within her songs make for a truly massive and endearing sonic landscape. The massive synth swells of “Gegen Den Strich” add to the great dynamic range of the song, while her massive bass tones on songs such as “Todd Rocket” or the closing number Orchid are truly making my home system shake. I am particularly fond of Rave Du Chateau, a track with an incredibly cool melodic line: the organ just reminds me of one of those really epic Hans Zimmer soundtracks (think Interstellar) but the beat echoes the most classic EDM sounds. A brilliant example of creativity and production value. [...] Honey Tower is proving herself as a versatile, talented and visionary product.”
“Gegen den Strich [...] immediately kicks things into high gears. A strong, thumping beat and a shuffling sound will immediately get fans on the dance floor; there is a narrative here that is weaved deftly through the track. Todd Rocket switches things up considerably. A wobbling, shambling bit of electricity imbues the track with a certain unique quality that will resound loudly in listeners’ ears long after the album has ceased to spin. [...]. Fin de siècle’ tempo gradually swells into a furious, fun set of synthesizers. [...] Orchid has two separate lines that unite to great fanfare – there is a slinky synth line that sparks whenever the electric / industrial arrangements at the high registers hits it. The track concludes with the same high energy and spontaneous feeling that Honey Tower initiated Dandy with, creating an emphatic end [...]. Dandy is an album that has tremendous energy from beginning to end [...] Top Tracks: Gegen den Strich, Fin de siècle”
“It’s been over a year since we last heard from the elusive lady producer, Honey Tower. The German electro artist just dropped her third official release ‘Dandy’, an 8-track concept album referencing literary, philosophical and historic manifestations of distinct dandyism. “Gegen den Strich”, the album’s first single and first track on the album features French writer Joris-Karl Huysmans’ infamous novel “Against the Grain” (1884), which became the “Bible of Decadence”, a cult novel portraying the inner life of an eccentric aesthete and antihero who loathes 19th-century bourgeois society and retreats into an ideal artistic world of his own creation — a decadent dandy par excellence. Honey Tower captures this dark, rebellious and aestheticized universe [...] transferring the novel’s setting to a modern-day underground club. Like in her previous releases, she once again plays diverse musical styles and juxtapositions and thereby goes against the grain herself.”
“German Electro artist, Honey Tower, has just released an 8-track concept album referencing literary, philosophical and historic manifestations of distinct Dandyism. She draws influence and inspiration from stories of the past, playing with musical styles in an attempt to astonish the listener. I’m particularly drawn to the story of tragic dandy, Franz Reichelt, who was so convinced of the strength of his parachute-onesie that he jumped in it from the Eiffel Tower in 1912. His equipment failed and Reichelt plummeted to the floor in full glare of friends and press. [...] Across the 8-tracks on Honey Tower’s album, there’s much going on. You’d dance to this at a club without giving the subject much thought and listen to this at home whilst fully considering the content. It’s intelligently dark dance music, erudite electro and techno that teaches. It’s a perfect way in to the weekend.”
“Honey Tower is a mysterious female electro producer hailing from Germany. She recently released her new album, Dandy, the follow up to her previous Warhol-inspired EP, Silver. According to Honey Tower, the best way to describe this new EP is ‘An 8-track concept album referencing literary, philosophical and historic manifestations of distinct dandyism.’ I think by dandy she means some late-night, after hours, dark EDM journey. Thats what you get when you listen to this solid EP– steady dance beats that weave their way in and out of electro playgrounds. One other thing that I really like about this EP is that she brings back a lot of the same synth sounds in different parts of the EP making it more like an electro sonata.”
“Honey Tower is a new female electro artist from Germany who’s keeping her identity on the low. What we do know is that she cranks out some interesting tunes. Her brand new Silver EP delivers a whopping six tracks and is available now at Beatport. It has a very peculiar atmosphere to it. It’s sort of dark, but definitely very sexy. There’s so many different textures running through it, it’s something you’ll have to interpret yourself. Below are some choice selections off the EP. Enjoy.”
“Honey Tower takes her inspiration for ‘Silver’ from Andy Warhol’s infamous ‘Factory’ studios, where his cross genre art exhibitions that took place. [...] Honey Tower brings you on a trip of interconnecting tangents – each a fascinating and pulsating as next, combining traditional club sounds electro and dubstep with anything and everything else. [...] Tracks like ‘Film Noir’ make it feel like an underground art installation. The one quote echoing in and out of the tune really gives an impression of a French classic black and white smoky crime drama. 'Neverland’ has a fantastic dark side to it as a cello comes ominously in, while the title track takes you on a fly by of a futuristic cityscape weaving in and out of the skyscrapers. There is enough diversity to appeal to the club headbangers and the purists – falling down this thrashy rabbit hole it is so easy to get lost in the beats. With this 25 minute release she will get her 15 minutes of fame and way more.”
“I’m very intrigued by the identity of Honey Tower — a female electro artist from Germany. While she’s keeping her face a mystery, she’s coming out strong with her music.”
“Promising German electro artist Honey Tower recently released Silver, the much-anticipated and inspired follow up EP to her debut LP, Crystal Rain. Previously featured on FAULT Online, the beat-bringing maverick of Germany’s ever-burgeoning club scene describes her latest effort as offering ”fresh listening experiences such as pumping Club bangers, haunting soundscapes with industrial drums, heavy Dubstep basslines as well as tight and sexy Electro House evoking obscure images of a classic ‘Film noir’ movie.” Definitely a FAULT Fave and a hot tip for the future.”
"Germany based electro/club/trash musical act Honey Tower are streaming their latest album ‘Crystal Rain’ for all to enjoy. The twelve track offering gives listeners a solid taste of an exciting emerging electro talent from the country that knows how to do it best. Honey Tower is yet another act that is pioneering off the success of being unsigned and wholly independent away from the traditional major labels. Give the album a listen and you’ll come away impressed!"
“Crystal Rain is an incredibly diverse album, and listeners will be sent on a journey that takes on hints of considerable genres. This means that before the time that the album closes up shop, fans will be hit with goth, darkwave, ambient, and all out club-worthy electronic tracks. However disparate these styles would seem to be, there is a competent hand ensuring that the effort is cohesive. Despite this being a debut, the jump-off made during the album’s initial salvo (Crystal Rain) will immediately draw listeners in.[...] Hypnotherapie is a very cerebral track, as it unites disparate elements into something that stands apart from other EDM music. Honey Tower is not afraid to accumulate these unique twists and turns and go for the gusto. She has the talent to make these off the wall compositions work. The album ends with a trio of tracks – Minimalgrammatik, Arrancador, and Nachtbluete – that showcase that Honey Tower is in an interesting place. [...]”
