“GARAGE CD OF THE WEEK!
When he spent a few years in the duo version of No Fun, Paul Leahy was a strong, sympathetic foil for David M’s songs. It’s no surprise, then, that, as leader of Polly, his All Messed Up is also strong and has a clear vision. In this case, the guitar playing Leahy is Mick Ronson to the singing Paul Leahy’s David Bowie/Ziggy Stardust. If that spells mid-’70s glam Leahy is out front about the era he is evoking from the opening track, It’s A Glam Glitter World. Ronson’s lead guitar lines andhis riffs engaged in a dialogue with Bowie’s melodies. Ditto, All Messed Up. Here, Polly also touches on Be Bop Deluxe, Queen, T Rex and Sweet. The end product could seem artificial if Leahy weren’t so convincing."”
