    Press Release Date: January 25, 2013 Contact: Ninety-Nine dcbrand99.com For Immediate Release Next “ART of Go-Go” Event features GODISHEUS (WASHINGTON, DC) — The next “ART of Go-Go” will take place on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at the Adinkra Cultural Arts Studio, 3804 34th Street, Mount Rainier, Maryland. Headlining the event will be GODISHEUS (gotta-see-us), trailblazers of DC’s funk rock explosion, who enjoy a cult following as a groundbreaking funk/rock/soul band comprised of highly esteemed go-go musicians. GODISHEUS employs the amazing musicianship of Dwayne Lee (guitar), Kenny “Kwick” Gross (drums), Byron Jackson (bass), Head-Roc (rapper), and Kal-El (vocals). This will be the second “ART of Go-Go” event promoted by DC Brand 99, with classic go-go, regional hip hop, and more music lovers’ music courtesy of turntablist DJ TDAWG, hosted by media personality Ninety-Nine (a/k/a the author Tahira Chloe Mahdi). These events support DC area artists by promoting their work and facilitating relationships to strengthen the artist community. DC Brand 99 is proud to feature the second “ART of Go-Go” in the Gateway Arts District in Mount Rainier, Maryland. Tickets are $15.00 in advance and $20.00 at the door on the day of the event. Advance tickets are on sale at Eventbrite.com. Guests can expect a two-level party experience, with cabaret style upstairs and ‘red light basement party’ style downstairs. Doors open at 9pm; GODISHEUS will perform promptly at 11pm, and the party will last until 2am. Limited refreshments will be offered. Door prizes are sponsored by local visual artists. DC Brand 99 will disclose more details as the event approaches. The first “ART of Go-Go” attracted many DC area artists to a packed house at the Tap & Parlour at Bohemian Caverns and featured a surprise performance by Grammy-nominated DC artist Christylez Bacon (video on YouTube).     National Black L.U.V. Festival The National Black L.U.V. (love, unity & vision) Festival was established by artists in the historic U-street community devoted to social change and uplift in 1997. Held every third Sunday in September, this FREE one-day multi-cultural outdoor event, uses thecultural arts as a vehicle to inform and enlighten communities of the Nation’s Capital. The National Black L.U.V. (love, unity & vision) Festivals’ is the annual event hosted by Social Art and Culture (our new non-profit). It’s mission is to inform and enlighten communities on social injustice, healthcare (testing attendees for HIV/AIDS) and educational issues in disadvantaged communities and neighborhoods, domestically and internationally. NBLFs’ vision: improve economic development and opportunity in under-served communities by demonstrating and promoting information that will educate the attendees on social causes. Yearly over 30 musicians, poets, and community organizations grace the main stage: The Last Poets, Amiri Baraka, Jessica Care Moore, Black Sheep, Yahzarah, Fertile Ground, Professor Griff (Pubic Enemy), Bomani, Asheru, and Raheem DeVaughn. NBLF created the Stop the Violence Hip Hop Award and Fannie Lou Hamer Award, which has honrored such Pioneers as Kurtis Blow, Roxanne Shante, African Bambata and France Cress Welsing. Partnered with Unity Health Care (Project Orion) BET Foundation, DOH, Whitman Walker Mobile Unit, and seven outreach HIV/AIDS organizations came out to counsel and test attendees. The National Black LUV Festival continues to conduct the largest annaul mobilization testing initiative’s for Washington, DC.! 2010 Supporter & Partners DC Department of Health, Community Education Group, DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities, African American Holiday Association, Usual Suspectz, FlowInsider, Lil So So Productions, DCTV, and WPFW
