About

The "Getocowboys" formed in 2006 and released their first CD "Hard Luck Symphony" in April 2008.  Comprised of songwriters Luke Adair (guitar, banjo, vocals), Josh Droegemueller (violin, mandolin, guitar, vocals), and Tres Womack (guitar, vocals).  Adair made his debut as a producer on Hard Luck Symphony, while each member penned at least three songs.

Adair and Droegemueller were both members of the Texas Country band  "Luke and B" until 2007, contributing to their 2007 release "Downtown."

Womack fronted his own band since 2004 and released two CD's, "Real Simple" (2005) and "Freak Show" (2007) during that time.

Their style lies somewhere between "Whiskeytown" and "WIlco."  All three members assume the role of lead vocalist on  "Hard Luck Symphony" which gives the record a compilation feel.  Singer/Songwriter Kimberly Kelly (Sometimes and Ride Home) and Austin Guitarist John Garr (Hometown Nothing and Ride Home ) made guest appearances on the CD.

Getocowboys

Hard Luck Symphony (REVIEW)

2008

Getocowboys are a band from Texas which is just fine by the Bluesbunny. As we have previously remarked, there is a surfeit of good music coming out of that fine state but, as they say, the proof is in the pudding so we quickly spun this one up to speed.

It does not take long for us to work out that there is no problem with the musicianship on show and, lyrically, the songs blend mainstream sensibilities with forays into the shadows and alleyways of life. The melancholy tones of Josh Droegemueller on "Galvanized" plough the same furrow as Schnitzel or Mat D and the Profane Saints, for example. "Small Town  Air" is more upbeat and would make a welcome addition to the playlist of any self respecting country music radio station whilst "Sometimes" sits somewhere in the middle. It sounds like a country ballad but the neatly understated vocal interplay between Tres Womack and Kimberly Kelly gives the proceedings real emotional impact. Taking us out of the album is "Perfect Thief", a reverential tribute to old timey music with its harmonies, nimble banjo picking and dance till dawn fiddle.

Maybe it's the weather. Maybe it's just the time of year but the Getocowboys fitted the bill tonight. Their mix of conventional country and dark side Americana was just the thing to keep the sunset company. As the night creeped in over the horizon, I was sad when this album finished but, then again, tomorrow is yet another day to press play.
