Georgia Wonder are Stephanie Grant (vocals) and Julian Moore (music). They are from the UK.
Georgia Wonder's first ever gig was in a lesbian club for a Tsunami fundraiser at which they were largely ignored. However, after winning various local radio demo panels and doing a live set on BBC Southern Counties they sent a demo to Bob Harris on Radio Two, who played their songs on his Saturday night show twice in two weeks thinking they were album tracks.
Soon after that they were invited to open for Mick Hucknall on his UK tour where they played in front of 14,000 people in a week. Using the tour as a springboard for their debut EP 'Hello Stranger' their song 'Girl You Never Knew' won praise from fans and critics alike, securing 'Record Of The Day' and 'Record Of The Week' on the ROTD tipsheet, a well respected barometer for emerging artists. The song was also Record Of The Day on Pop Justice, who called it '..one Grey's Anatomy soundtrack appearance away from being an international hit single.'
The video for 'Girl You Never Knew', shot on a budget of next to nothing and featuring lead vocalist Stephanie simply singing to the camera, was immediately picked up by Bliss TV who started playing it several times a day.
Georgia Wonder were chosen as a spotlight artist on We7 in September 2008 where all five tracks from their debut EP were in the top 10 downloads for the week with 'an exceptional response.'
The band performed a historic gig at the London American Embassy at the 2008 election night party alongside Glen Tillbrook from Squeeze and this year performed at the US Ambassadors house in London for the 4th July celebrations. Also this year they were invited to host two panels at the first ever All2gether Now music conference Berlin alongside Amanda Palmer.
Georgia Wonder's DIY approach to their music has also been noticed, having being nominated for an interactive award for their 'Hello Stranger' CD campaign where they scattered their debut EP across the UK for people to find. They also became the 14th most shared band on the planet in January 2009 after using P2P technology to distribute 50,000 EPs in four days.
