Galen Kipar Project / Press

"intricate and memorable, sophisticated and relaxed."

WNC Magazine

“The Galen Kipar Project has been on the rise since 2006, with a strong regional presence in the Southeast plus U.S. national touring, including performances at Magnolia Fest, Springfest, FloydFest, Six Points Music Festival, and the Crested Butte Music Series among others. The GKP has also played the Knitting Factory in NYC and to a jam-packed, toe-tapping crowd at the Kennedy Center’s renowned Millennium Stage in Washington DC. The New River Voice recalled, “If the Pied Piper-like migration of people to the stage during their FloydFest performance is any kind of barometer, the band is on an immutable trajectory of permeating Southwest Virginia with their versatile, yet immediately attainable sonority.”

“Album review, Why its Needed - “It's like a collection of short stories, brilliantly constructed and with a unique and compelling literary voice. I keep coming back to each song, listening more deeply and being drawn more deeply in. I was knocked out by their last CD, and was hoping I'd like the next one even half as much; if anything, I like this one twice as much.””

David Gans - KPFA

“The Scenic Route, the eight-song album continues the band’s fusion of folk, jazz, and classical elements, creating a sound that’s intricate and memorable, sophisticated and relaxed. “Headed on down to the waterside, going to find a place to rest my mind,” Kipar sings in “Riversong,”...”

“In Asheville, fans call his act a “small-scale symphony.” It’s probably more like chamber folk/pop, sometimes reminiscent of Adrian Belew’s quieter moods.”

"the care and meticulousness of a gourmet chef... the melodies and arrangements defy expectations, the lyrics take surprising turns and the adventure is a delight, every step of the way" "This album is great"

“Voted #16 in WNC - WNCW 88.7 Southeast Regional Top 100 of 2008”

““Small-scale symphony: the GKP brings big ideas into simple songs. Paper Sailer (08’) seems to be a metaphor for anything brave and fragile on that boundless sea of possibility... is remarkably effective, giving the recording a simple, almost elegant feel.”

““...this brilliant young artist. Never settling for conventional melodic or lyrical choices, everything about Kipar’s music says he is most certainly a thinker. String quartet, tuba, sounds of playing children, classical guitars & church bells artfully woven through the complex, accessible-tune”

“Galen Kipar has been busy creating music over the past few years, which is one of the qualities that has helped make him a fixture on the Asheville music scene. He’s releasing his third album, in as many years, this month with a CD release show at the Grey Eagle on Thursday.”

Jaime Mckee - Asheville Citizen Times

“Asheville's Soomo Publishing company has purchased two of the Project's songs to use in a educational video that will reach over 260 Colleges and Universities across the US. - 2008”
