Bio
Five One's songs are influenced by a range of artists, such as The Beatles, The White Stripes, A Tribe Called Quest, Bob Marley, and Bad Brains, and their music represents more than just a sound, but a lifestyle.
The trio’s members, Blue, Red, and Green, are the personification of colors. By Personifying color they are not only artists but art itself, and represent a lack of emphasis on individual identity, and an emphasis on creating music that strives to speak for everyone. Five One has released one album in 2006 entitle "The Virginia Complex", and since then has been releasing "Freetapes" every other month, accompanied by music videos, online webisodes, and a variety of supplemental visual art. Five One's first video, “Active,” was showcased on MTV2's Dewcircuit Competition which garnered them new fans and national exposure from commercial airplay.
With an eclectic style, constant reinvention with every song, and innovative live shows, Five One strives to define themselves and their art on their own terms, and to always surprise their fans and themselves. Five One has the potential to be one of few hip hop artists that have critical acclaim and commercial success.
About
The Five One's sound is blessed with freedom, inventiveness, and true imagination. The quartet is rooted in Hip Hop but is never bound by conventional ideologies of hip hop or any other genre for that matter. They are like a cross between a pleasing Indie Pop/Rock band and the most innovative Hip Hop group you've ever heard. To better understand the band's musical direction you must understand their philosophy on life and art as a whole.
Philosophers declare that as you grow up, you form a false mental image of who you are, based on your personal and cultural conditioning. So taking in this idea, means that millions of people are walking the earth perceiving themselves in a way dictated by their influences and not there own imagination. The Five One have not only identified this false mental image of themselves, but they are rejecting it through their music and art. They have shed their individual identities and take on the broader identities of colors. The members of The Five One Band, Red, Blue, Green and Gold are the personification of colors. By personifying Colors they are expressing themselves not only with the art they create but as art itself, which represents a lack of emphasis on individual identity, and an emphasis on creating music that strives to speak for everyone. This idea of self awareness through imagination is something that they have come to call, Revalulion.
