Bio

Eric Manning (E-Train for short) is a songwriter in Willow Spring, NC. Growing up he soon found out that he had a quirky sense of humor and had a knack of making people laugh. By high shcool he was performing in bars and coffee houses with an acoustic and a head full of James Taylor, Jimmy Buffet, Crosby, Stills and Nash, Howlin Wolf, Freddie King and Robert Johnson. He started writing songs seriously in college and found he not only had a knack at it, but found out that people really liked his humor mixed into his songwriting. So mixing blues with elements of americana and some country, his songs are funny, some are pensive, thought provoking, and some are just downright fun to listen to.

About

Growing up in Greenville, NC, there was always music and creativity all around me. My father is a poet, playwrite, writer and artist and plays guitar and the piano, and my mother is a soprano in the local coral groups. Then there was my dad’s record collection. Filled with an eclectic mixture of classical, folk, jazz, pop, comedy and blues, I remember trying to play along to the Kingston Trio, BB King and the Beatles at an early age. Seeing that I had a musical inclination, my dad started teaching me guitar and piano when I was 10 years old. The guitar won hands down. I played guitar and then drums all through Jr High and High School, when I  he started taking my playing serious enough to venture out into the bars and coffeehouses around East Carolina University.

After graduating college in 1994 with a degree in Graphic Design, I formed a band with some friends from art school and spent 4 years playing up and down the east coast. Traveling in a fixed up airport shuttle and with a lot of time to kill, I started to write his own songs. Fast forward to today, I continue to play, write, record and produce all my own material and I play almost all the instruments on my CD’s himself.  This Past year, I competed in and won the Cape Fear Blues Challenge in Wilmington, NC and went on to compete in the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, TN. Mynlatest release is Cheap Guitars & Expensive Women and is full of songs sure to put a smile on your face and make you chuckle a bit. Hope you enjoy the music.
