“Though their name sounds like something a shoe salesman might chime brightly as you’re walking out the door, Winnipeg’s Enjoy Your Pumas aren’t a commercial band. Quite the opposite. Singer Rosie Blais’ stream-of-conscious lyrics add evocative brush strokes to the band’s sinewy, polyrhythmic indie rock. Not easy terrain for product placement, but infinitely listenable. “Like Animals,” with its panging guitars and clattering beats, sounds something like Metric meets Sunny Day Real Estate. Blais’ voice is warm and breathy, similar to Metric’s Emily Haines, and acts as a salve to the reverberating, angular thrusts of guitar. “Weight of the Circles” takes off at an infectious canter, wiry guitars rearing up as drums change pace. It’s pretty hard to tell what Blais is talking about in these songs, but sometimes it’s nice to forgo the message and just enjoy the sound.”
