Where ever there is light there will be shadows but let Eastman bring some new bright light into the coming days. Its been 3 years since Eastmans last album 24Hours (the Deviants soundtrack) and 4 years since his debut album Flame and over a year that he even released a new single. But instead of being lazy he has been working on Light Design which was recorded in London, Cologne, Berlin and Bordeaux over the last few yearsÂ…and it features Eastmans best selling single so far:
Lover with the stunning vocals of Jordan Bailey. Strictly seen is Light Design a real follow up to Flame .. Since 24Hours was a selection of new tracks and a mixture of some taken from Flame and unreleased catalog material for what was essentially the soundtrack to the XXX Film Deviants. But on this new gem we only have new material and as before most of them wouldnt sound out of place in a feature film. You hear the trademark synth choirs and melancholic string arrangements floating over beats .. either trip hop, minimal or the more the clubby variety.
Light Design invites you on a trip thru imaginative pictures in your head and is telling tales we can all relate to even if they dont have lyrics because other than on Lover, the album only has the floating choirs to help you along the way or the ticking clock noise on Alarm and the title track Light Design, Eastman is trying to say Always be alert. Lover is not the only collaboration on here, the new single Shiver was a joint effort with label mate Dj & Producer Pj Nfx from Berlin and has a more electro feel about it. Mr. Eastman always likes to do the unexpected so what might start up as a dance number might actually not be one and with Hawk he leads you up the garden path, its more like falling in slow motion. How about a cosmic roller-coster ride?
If thats ya fancy than Space is the track for you. And what do you do after a long day ? You wanna chill and turn the Lights Out, exactly what Eastman thought when he composed the track by that name the very minimal though atmospheric sound of the bells will take you off to wonderland. Light design will certainly get you hooked if you listen to it as a whole and it we can only hope that we wont have to wait another 3 years for a follow up.
