“The history bears repeating. Bellevue Cadillac played a gig on Martha’s Vineyard that had in attendance a very interested John F. Kennedy Jr.. Kennedy, unbeknownst to Bell, was planning a super secret wedding off the coast of Georgia and surreptitiously tried to book Bellevue Cadillac for his event. Kennedy told Bellevue’s agent that the band could not be told who they were being hired to play for. Bell and his Bellevue Cadillac cohorts, not knowing who’d they be playing for, turned down the Kennedy wedding to stick to a previously booked wedding. “The whole band had a meeting. We decided we were going to honor the original wedding by the people that booked us, because basically, it came down to this: no one bride on that day is more important than any other bride,” Bell said.”

“Bellevue Cadillac's 'Professor' Doug Bell Plans Solo Gigs ~ If the name Doug Bell rings a bell, then you know more than a little about music. Bell (nicknamed ‘The Professor') is the brains behind the 20 year-old 8-piece band Bellevue Cadillac which was nominated for seven Grammys in 2007 and was nominated for two in 2011. Bell wants his current fans and future converts to know that, while he's still guiding and performing with his band, he's putting more emphasis on going solo. Why solo now? "One of the biggest reasons for the solo thing is the lyrics get bypassed because the big band show is so compelling on its own," says Bell. "But the real artistry is the lyrics -- and solo, the audience hears the words." A few other reasons for the partial breakaway: "It's harder to travel and get gigs for a big band," he says. "Also, I keep getting invited to play with some really big names, so I need to break out and be available more as a solo performer."”

“Scituate to hold Heritage Days festival - For decades people have flocked to Scituate to attend the annual Heritage Days festival. Gerry McMorrow, concert promoter for the event, said he expects this weekend will be no different. The Chamber of Commerce will present the festival Saturday and Sunday, with events running both days on Front Street and surrounding areas. McMorrow calls the festival a "mini Mardi Gras," featuring carnival rides, artisan crafts, children’s activities, and historical site visits, all with views of Scituate Harbor. Music, however, remains the chief attraction. This year, the festival will feature performances by folk artist Tom Rush and jazz band Bellevue Cadillac. McMorrow credits the live music for the tremendous growth of the festival since he watched bands perform in front of his Front Street shop in the 1970s. ”

“Friends of Boston's Homeless Fund-Raiser Focuses on Local Eats, Success Stories The Friends of Boston’s Homeless took over the House of Blues for the first time last Thursday for its 23rd annual Beyond Shelter fund-raiser. This year’s event put a premium on local food and philanthropy, featuring menus from 25 area restaurants, all of which donated their services. "Not only does this [layout] allow our guests to sample a wide array of local fare, but it also allows the restaurants to introduce their product to a new audience," said Jamie O’Neal O’Loughlin, event planner for Friends of Boston’s Homeless. The Bellevue Cadillac band performed a two-hour set of jazz, gospel, blues, and soul.
