Q: What type of system are you recording om and are you playing all instruments?
A: I'm currently recording in GarageBand on mac. I've also used Mixcraft on windows. I'm using a Line 6 UX2 interface, which has many amp models and effects. I get the basic tone with the Line 6, then tweak with GarageBand effects (post recording). I run electric guitars into the UX2, and have also started using an all-tube preamp between guitar and UX2 (you can pick those up on ebay cheap, and have a great saturated/overdriven tone). For acoustic, the UX2 has XLR inputs (with phantom power available). I mostly use an AKG condenser mic, and sometimes a Shure SM57 dynamic mic. Do I play all instruments? Not always. Many times I am playing over backing tracks. Sometimes I sing, play harmonica, keyboards, percussion. So all the above.
