Bio
Born from the seed of an idea. It was the idealism of crazy rock ‘n’ roll, laced with humor and a liberal dose of outrageous stage antics, that gave birth to Dr. Spock, fully equipped to kick the complacent collective asses of what we used to call ‘rock and roll’.
About
After first performing under the Dr. Spock moniker in the hazy past of the mid-nineties, it took the group almost a decade to develop into a working band with a steady line-up of veterans from the Icelandic punk, death-metal and indie scenes. Dr. Spock has developed a unique sound and song-writing style of its own, to complement their chaotic absurdist ideology, charged look and legendary live show, bringing together the mish-mash of styles and attitudes which combine perfectly to give the band it's otherworldly but, at the same time, distinctly Icelandic identity. Since locking onto the core line-up that still is Dr. Spock and forming an alliance with 'the sugarcubes' record label Smekkleysa in 2004, Dr. Spock has evolved from being a no-profile unknown secret beloved by other musicians, to becoming one of the best known, and critically acclaimed rock acts in Iceland.
2008 saw the gestation, recording and production of the epic CD and DVD project 'Falcon Christ' which was released in Iceland at the end of the year. The album was produced in collaboration with Syrmir Hauksson and mixed by Grammy-award winner Husky Hoskulds. Dr.Spock was hard at work in 2008, concentrating on the home market in Iceland with countless live shows, tours around the country and high profile media events such as their satirical participation in the Icelandic Eurovision song competition where the rockers had a close shave, ending up in third place.
In 2009 - 2011 Dr. Spock are looking to spread the word abroad starting with the closest Northern European markets in Scandinavia, Germany and the Benelux countries where the band has already garnered some interest from afar. Most members already have quite some experience of the music business in these countries from touring and working closely with acts such as Mugison, Bang Gang and others. We are also working closely with our record label Smekkleysa which has a long experience of supporting Icelandic acts breaking into the European music scene (The Sugarcubes, Mum, Sigur Ros...) .
