Bio
DJ Story has been DJing since 1998 when he began attending a DJ workshop in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Around the same time, he got his first recording studio set up and began educating himself to become a producer. He has recorded and performed along side artists Chris Berry, Michael Kang, Goddess Alchemy Project, Sasha Rose, and many others.
DJ Story now teaches DJ workshops. He has recorded hundreds of songs, and licenses them to be used in movies. He plays sets at festivals like Burning Man, Source, and Mystic Garden Party, and is continually creating his-story as he goes along.
About
DJ Story was born in Jamaica and grew up around music. His father toured in a reggae band and DJ Story was in an African marimba band in New Mexico called "Tatenda" (we give thanks) for a few years learning traditional Zimbabwean music. He started DJing and producing dance music in 1998 when he got setup with his first home recording studio by a musician friend who was famous in the 80's and saw Story's musical potential. DJ Story enjoyed experimenting, playing and creating sounds with software programs like Logic Audio, Acid, Sound Forge, Fruity Loops, Mixman DJ Megamix and Techno E-Jay etc.
One day an ad caught his attention about a free DJ Scratching workshop at a teen center nearby where he lived in New Mexico. He got to experiment with the turntables and learned some basic DJ scratching techniques and it was also in that class that he got his first lesson in beatmatching house and hip hop records. From that point on he was addicted to mixing vinyl. He got a summer job to earn the money for his first turntables.
He started out playing house parties and some outdoor desert raves in New Mexico. Then he got some gigs in San Francisco and Berkeley, and did a few radio interviews in Chico California. He played a few sets at Burning Man. One of which was through a whiteout dust storm nearly destroying his records. He lived on Kauai for 5 years and did a lot of DJing at beach parties and private parties and production work too. Went back to Burning Man with 1000 CDs to give of way of a compilation he co-produced with Dr. Do Right called "Stages of Life", which is available as a free download on DJ Story's website: www.intuitivebeats.com
More recently he has been living on Maui and playing at house parties, Source (Maui Regional Burning Man), Kaupo full moon gatherings and producing deep tribal progressive trance, psybient, electro house and dubstep using Ableton Live and Propellerheads Reason software. He was collaborating with his friend Sirus B under the name DSL (Deep Sea Lounge) and now DJ Story's working on another project with Victoria A.K.A. Luna Moth under the name "Unidivina."
