“To wind this all up on a more abstract note, former Worcester-area poet Otis Galloway, working under the name DJ 02is, has been recording strange, funky abstract music as part of something called “The 99 Project.” This song, “Near Life Experience,” is No. 12 in the series. Galloway, who is evidently based in Scotland these days, has created something weird and wonderful here … music that’s both ethereal and funky, and kind of joyous, as a sample of a warm laugh permeates through. It might not be the most commercially viable work, but it’s definitely enjoyable, and it’s good to know there are artists — and artists with local and regional ties — still willing to scratch at the wall of what’s possible in music. It’s these sort of ventures into the new by artists such as Scandal and Galloway that serve as a bulwark from the hum-drum musical stagnation that plagues so many artists today.”
