About

Born Bekimpilo Ndabalime i had my first taste of the entertainment industry in 1999 when i got to UCT where i signed up for the campus radio station and i haven't turned back ever since.

I have grown up knowning that i would be working in the entertainment industry and some way. I was in almost all the end of term musical productions of my primary school and sang and performed in high school assemblies as well as part of the Drama club and even got to write my own songs and plays. Varsity saw my eyes get opened up to the world of possibilities that small town Mzingwane high school in Zimbabwe wasn't able to show me. I signed up to the campus radio station and started out working on the Graveyard shifts doing 4 hours a week and worked my way till i got to present and produce the afternoon drive time show for 3 years. i produced several other shows on the station including an afro-jazz show, a Kwaito show, a Hip-hop show, a talk show and the breakfast show. I also held several management positions reaching the position of Pragramms manager. My ability to learn and teach saw me head up the new recruites training and evaluation for 3 years.

While i was at UCT radio i was heavily involved in events on campus which saw me MC a lot of the promotions held on the campus held by out side companies and so Blak-Rok Entertainment came to life after having been an idea since high school days. I worked with clients like Student Village, Coke, RedBull, NedBank and a host of others. UCT radio also gave me access to the who's who of the Mzansi music industry. In my years on campus pretending to be a student i got the chance to work with the likes of DJ Cleo, Oskido, Pitch Black Afro(on his 1st album), BadBoy T, Bino(when he was at Metro) and several other people that went to CapeTown looking to do shows out there. I was involved in the legendary "Kappa vs. Jozi" hip-hop event that UCT Radio & Y-fm organised in 2003.

My DJing career started purely by accident when one of the senior DJs on the radio, Dan Nichol, had double booked himself and asked me to handle the one gig simply because i was a very vocal member at the radio station. I had been learning my mixing skills by watching seniors like Odwa Noah(Overdose) Sango and Robin the Man(YaronaFM) so i didn't have any live practise so needless to say i was kuk. I didn't know how to set the sound up well so the sound was kuk and i insisted on not getting paid for the gig and i vowed there and then that i would never have a kuk gig ever. After that hiccup i became so prolific i was at every Campus gig from February 2000 till i left campus in July 2004 with my biggest crowd being 5 000 peeps at the annual Freshers bash between 2000 and 2003.

In February 2001 i got the idea of promoting students night at a club near the UCT campus called Obsessions. I enlisted the help of two of my fellow DJ buddies Mellow Funk and the Rangelic Bastard and we managed to build enough of a following to pack out the venue for 3 semester, great times indeed.

I left CapeTown For Johannesburg to carve out a Bexta shaped space on the Mzansi entertainment scene and my 1st port of call was all the record execs that i had gotten acquainted to while working at UCT Radio and before long i found myself working for the top independent hip-hop Label in Mzansi, Outrageous Records, with artists like H2O, Pebbles, Optical Illusion, Zubz and ProVerb. I learnt the wokings of the music industry and spent many ours reading books and articles on the internet and buying a lot of  literature to arm my self. I got the chance to work on television through the Black Rage Production affiliation whic gave me a chance to work as an assistant producer on HeadRush (Channel O) hip-hop show. I wrote scripts and scheduled music videos and also co-presented the show for a short while. I felt the need to test my abilities and so i set out on my own to set up an artist management company and my 1st artist was the internationaly known rhyme slinger ProVerb and then Nthabi and Reason followed. I learnt the tough side of the industry and it wasn't pretty, i got to assist in the A&Ring of ProVerb's second album MaNuScript which was also another learning curve of note. My inexperiance with the business aspect got the better of me and i had to close shop after a year and Joind the legendary GhettoRuff records as a marketing manager then i swiftly moved to Assistant label manager which was a daunting task since the label had some of South Africa's cream when it comes to Urban music. I spent some time there and learnt a lot from the extremely knowledgable Lance Stehr and am still doing so now.

My next stint was with the world of digital music distribution. In mid 2008 i joined the team that worked on the MTN XPloaded digital portal for independent artists. I worked as an assistant A&R manager for urban music as well as Promotions manager. This was another major learning curve which brought my peopel skills and knack for sniffing out hot artists the fore. I worked with legendary South African hip-hop DJ and producer, DJ Bionic and that was another insight on how to deal with corperates and major sponsorship. I also honed my skills as an even organiser and MC on the several gigs we did at venues like The Blues Room in Sandton.

All the time i was in Johannesburg i was continuing with my DJing but focusing on private functions like bithdays, anniversaries and corperate functions, my ability to read crowds and broad spectrum in music helped me get all kinds of gigs. The highlight of my gigs was playing at My Presidents mother's 92nd birthday on Valentines day '09, it was quite the experiance playing for such a wide spectrum of  people.

I have taken the years i have experianced in the music industry thus far and have evolved into Entertainment industry strategiest focusing mainly on marketing, promotions and A&R.

I am establishing a weekly party night at a once legendary venue, SinaBar (formally intersection) in Randburg on the corner of Jan Smuts & Republic in Johannesburg. From October the 30th i will be throwing weekly Kwaito parties to Usher in the festive season.
