“Coolidge native Billy Ray Davis, lead singer and guitarist eagerly awaiting feedback after surviving two rounds of "Nashville Star," a sort of "American Idol" for country musicians. Davis selected a George Strait cover tune, "Amarillo by Morning," and nailed it. Davis got a call-back that Sunday and returned for round two, where 30 contestants discovered a twist: they were given two and a half minutes to play an original song. Many of the artists were ill-prepared for this challenge; Davis was able to performed "Wild Blue Yonder," an original. The tune was featured in late June at the Gallopin' Goose during the Honky Tonk Revival featuring a live remote broadcast by KNIX DJs Tim & Willy. The DJs were so impressed that they requested a copy of a recording of the song and have offered to play it on the air.”
