Bio
Dana is a musician, actor, singer and municipal webmanager in Seattle, Washington. She's been making music and theatre since childhood, and web sites since 1994. The focus of the material on this site is her recent project to build a musical theatre repertoire. Otherwise, her musical projects have most recently included playing bass in a rock band and drums in a blues band. She grew up in symphonies, jazz bands and marching bands playing cello, percussion and electric bass. She began playing guitar and singing rock/folk/blues in earnest in the 1990s, and has been a featured artist at open mikes in the Seattle area, but primarily enjoys the guitar as a means to sing-alongs with friends and family. Dana's theatre career has been primarily non-musical, with the exception of roles such as Wendi in Angry Housewives and a few Gilbert & Sullivan shows. In her deep past, she sang tenor in a gospel choir, mezzo-soprano in classical projects and contralto in opera projects. Her non-musical theatre roles have included the title role in Lysistrata, Marmee in Little Women, Kate in Sylvia, Marilla in Anne of Green Gables, Mickey in The Odd Couple (Female Version), Gloria in Grace & Glorie, Mrs. Hale in Trifles, and Aunt Eileen in the Cripple of Inishmaan. Her theatre resume is on her web site at www.danarice.net.
About
One track in Dana's tune list is her professional voiceover demo (Produced by Steve Mitchell and Veronica Weikel of Seattle, WA.). The rest are rehearsal tracks of musical theatre tunes she is learning for theatre auditioning and to sing with friends.
There are two types of musical recordings on Dana's playlist - "Rehearsal Recordings", and "Scratch Tracks"
Both types of tracks are self-produced using the Garage Band software. The rehearsal recordings were recorded first, using the built-in iSight mic on a 2008-vintage macbook. The scratch tracks were recorded later, using an SM58 mic with a lightsnake USB cable to the same macbook. They are not professional recordings, and Dana will not be selling them.
The scratch tracks include "Send in The Clowns" from A Little Night Music, "By The Sea" from Sweeney Todd, "A Cockeyed Optimist" from South Pacific, and "The Lady is a Tramp" from Babes in Arms.
The rehearsal tracks include "Losing My Mind" from Follies, "When You're Good To Mama" from Chicago, "Small World" from Gypsy, "For Good", "No Good Deed", "Defying Gravity" and "Popular" from Wicked, "Take Me or Leave Me" from Rent, and "With One Look" from Sunset Boulevard.
Using dialogue and songs with different ranges and character types, Dana is singing and speaking all the dialogue in these test tracks, (including all chorus parts on "Defying Gravity".). The instrumental backtracks she is singing along with are from PocketSongs (Wicked and Rent) and the Singer's Musical Theatre Anthology - Mezzo/Belter editions - Books 1 through 5 (all tunes other than the Rent and Wicked trax).
