The DEMO singer introduces himself to the world of freak folk with the 16-track release of “White Trash Jazz.” Hardly the grungy clatter we’re used to from the former Pats!e guitarist, Gordon seems to rediscover his Virginia roots on the new offering, which sways from lo-fi acoustics and delta blues to swampy, surrealistic country rock. There are some avant-garde clanks and free-form jazz jangles intertwined throughout, but a lot of it reminds us of Beck’s early folk and those weirder tracks that made Tom Waits and Leonard Cohen acceptable bizarre-men. Also for fans of Animal Collective, Panda Bear and Sufjan Stevens. He headlines The Backstage at Championships Bar (931 Chambers St., Trenton) tonight. Show starts at 8. RoebusOne, FreeDoom, Raymond Strife, Eric Moeller, Stomping Ground and Embracing Disaster play, too. Tickets cost $5. All-ages.”
