Bio
Once upon a time in East Lansing, Chris Meloche and David Andrews formed a band called 'Northern Lights,' with two friends from their residence hall. Twenty years later they ran into each other in Chelsea, Michigan, and the impact (and four other friends) formed another band. It might have been called 'Mid-Life Crisis' (for obvious reasons), but the name was already being used by other groups (a few hundred anyway). So, after much debate and minor outbreaks of fisticuffs, they eventually settled on Coconut Radio. After a settling-in period during which a few members grew weary of the constant need to be awesome, the five members you see above were convened. Four old guys and one young. See if you can guess which is which.

It's time for Sounds & Sights 2009! We'll be on Main Street (location TBA) in Chelsea, MI at 7:00 pm on Thursday, July 9, July 16 & August 6. Stop by on your way through town!
SHOW UPDATE:
Our last Sounds & Sights appearance will be at the corner of South and Main Streets in Chelsea, Michigan!
We've also added two September gigs! We'll be on a double bill with That Racket! in Chelsea at the Pierce Park Gazebo on Saturday, September 13 in a matinee show beginning at 2:00 pm.
We've also been asked by the Western Washtenaw County Democratic Party to play their Barn Dance/Fundraiser on Saturday, September 27 on Island Lake Road in Chelsea. Details to follow as available!
SHOW UPDATE:
We have our venues for the Thursday night Sounds & Sights shows on 8/7, 8/14 and 8/28. On August 7 and August 28 we'll be playing at the Clocktower Gazebo, just north of downtown Chelsea. On 8/14 we'll be at the Library, just south of downtown. See below for our location at the CEF Pig Gig on Sunday, July 20 (this week!).
SHOW UPDATE:
The address for our appearance at the CEF Pig Gig is 6021 Tory Lane, Chelsea, MI. A lawn, a tent, an electrical outlet...you know the drill.
This will be Kyle Kooyer's official debut, though he's been rehearsing with us since January. As the new guy, he gets to carry all the sound equipment. :)
In addition to the CEF Pig Gig on 7/20/08, we'll be in downtown Chelsea playing for Sounds & Sights on Thursday Nights three times in August. We're playing on 8/07, 8/14 and 8/28 - all Thursdays, of course. It'll be in the evening, 'round about 7:00 pm at the start, I think. Not sure where they set up the stage, but since the series kicks off in June, I'm sure it won't be hard to find...
SHOW UPDATE:
Almost forgot to mention, we'll be playing the Chelsea Education Foundation Pig Roast again this summer. Coconut Radio will play its fourth Pig Gig on Sunday, July 20, 2008. It'll be in Chelsea, Michigan, of course, and I'll post the address as we get closer to the big pig day.
NEWS:
January 2008: Coconut Radio welcomes new guitarist/vocalist Kyle Kooyers! The average age of the band just dropped precipitously.
BIO:
A long time ago (1983, I think...it's hard to recall) in a log university (Michigan State), Chris Meloche and David Andrews formed a group that could be (under the broadest possible definition) called a band (and would be called 'Northern Lights') with two other fellows from their residence hall (dorm).
Twenty years later they ran into each other in Chelsea, Michigan (no, not a traffic accident), and put together another band (under the usual definition) with four of their friends (back to the broad definitions here). They would have called it 'MLC' (for Mid-Life Crisis) but the name was already being used by many other bands (a few hundred anyway), so they settled on Coconut Radio.
The rest is hysterical.
