With a voice as passionate and strong as Joplin but smoother than a double-malt whiskey, the singer-songwriter carves her own sound. Accompanied by the smooth Ash “Cash” Davis on bass and Stephen Izrael playing bongo, the threesome rumbled along with the audience, tapping their feet, and meeting eager applause. “I’m strictly into indie pop ... well, plus maybe the occasional apocalyptic neo folk album as a guilty pleasure Though Runaway Sun certainly wasn’t indie pop, frontman Andrew Karnavas won me over with his weathered, bluesy voice and songs chronicling a life of whiskey and heartache. Daniel de Luna’s explosive guitar work had the heat of a sultry summer kiss, and a wa-wa pedal added sad longing to his intricate solos. Brian del Castillo played warm bass and Marshall West kept time with jazzy drum beats. All combined for a decidedly sexy sound. Perhaps the highlight of their set was Clory Martin. A petite brunette with hair piled in a bun took the stage and belted out the soulful “Sweetheart.” The awed crowd stayed silent except for one stunned man who shook his head and whispered, “That girl, my God she’s good.””

Join us for a very special evening of heartfelt music from some great bands on the Montrose scene! Clory Martin Band brings her indie-folk sound with a bluesy feel to Avant Garden. Close your eyes and listen; you'll think you're in the studio at Austin City Limits. Devil Killing Moth is a three piece acoustic garage band that sets their own sound in accordance to their mood. Shotgun Betties are an all female Rockabilly band from Texas comprised of four supremely talented multi-instrumentalists. Los Pistoleros de Texas combines the Texas border’s traditional Tex-Mex sounds with a mix of Gulf Coast zydeco, punk, country and blues. Peak Allon is a singer-songwriter with a sweet, soulful voice that will inspire and captivate.
