Organic Poetry is a poetry and music show held on 2nd Fridays at the Firehouse Gallery in downtown Phoenix, Arizona. Organic Poetry coincides opening night of the current art show on 2nd Fridays at the Firehouse Gallery. To gather steam and momentum, for each Organic, we have a featured artist (poet/painter/singer/actor/storyteller/songwriter), that brings his or her voice to the mic. To share a new poem, a story, a recording, a painting, a poem-song. It is a moment for the artist to share old words and new sounds. Organic also has a featured musicians. The musician gets the spotlight to perform music, as a solo, duo or with his/her band. Also, the musician is warmly welcome to participate with the improv Organic jam sessions that occur, often during the evening.
Organic Poetry has a two great features for October, that have just confirmed: The featured artist is Monica Rivas --and the featured musician, is Eddy Detroit! Plus, a traveling poet takes the stage, Shanara The MouthPeace. Eddy Detroit The legend, the myth, Eddy is an all-time fave from the Phoenix arts underground, with drum works in all flavors of music: experimental, punk rock, grunge & voo doo jazz -- this artist is phenomenal. Can you believe it, new folk?! With a mandolin! If you have not experienced the music of Eddy Detroit, you are in for a treat! Monica Rivas The performer, the singer, performance artist! Back in the early 90’s when performance artists, such as Karen Hestenes and Rose Johnson were making their way with one-of-a-kind performance artworks, Monica was the young ingenue, learning the ropes in the local art scene, at Metropophobobia, Planet Earth Multi-cultural Theater, and making the rounds of performance art exhibitions. And what an exotic, beautiful scene it was! Then she became the third wheel in the local singer/songwriter duo, Strum & Hum. Oh, what a world! Shanara The MouthPeace Spoken wordsmith/actor and jazz vocalist, will bring her creative talents all the way from downtown Chicago. Via the magic of Facebook, Organic Poetry welcomes the traveling poet to Arizona. Also on-board Organic for the evening, will be DJ Scapegoat, to offer up musical back-drops, and harmonic interludes to the poets, tags in between performers, and convergence of the poetic vortex.
