Halloween with the Howling Bullets! Part 1 of a 2 night party!
The final night of O-Town Hoedown 2013 brings together Christian D and the Hangovers from Toronto, Shakedown Combo from Amherst NS, and Ottawa's hometown sweethearts Ninety Pounds of Ugly $10 - door 9pm Christian D and the Hangovers Christian DeArmond doesn’t seem to give a toss what tags critics use to describe the music that his band, Christian D & the Hangovers, makes. I didn’t ask, but I’m guessing he’s pretty comfy with psychobilly. With a style that looks to The Cramps, Nick Cave and Elvis, The Hangovers belt out distorted, punky rockabilly on record and on stage as if their lives depended on it. Shakedown Combo The Shakedown Combo perform with the attitude that Rockabilly can be modern and contemporary, not simply a sound from past decades revived by cover bands whenever retro becomes fashionable. The band favours original material over reworking the old classics, however they don't dismiss the original rockers, or the 1980s revivalists. Rockabilly artists from both eras play a big part in influencing the sound and style of The Shakedown Combo, giving them a solid base to move forward from. The band is Nova Scotia, Canada based but keeps mobile - the band members all have 1000's of touring miles under their belts cut across the entirety of Europe, from the UK to Scandinavia and The Netherlands to the depths of Italy, not to mention festivals and clubs throughout North America including Viva Las Vegas. Ninety Pounds of Ugly Fusing rockabilly, honky-tonk country and lounge into a boozy brew, Ninety Pounds of Ugly recently released their second album "Never Going Back" and their debut was voted best roots-country album of the year. Fronted by Patsy Clash, with guitar lickin' by Lefty McRights and rhythm provided by Standup Steve and Ernie Legend, the band goes from blistering rockabilly to sultry lounge and back again, taking the listener on a roller-coaster ride of murder, infidelity and drinking. In the best way possible.
