About
Long story short. If you don't already know I play lead guitar in the bands Savatage and The Trans-Siberian Orchestra. Savatage is still together folks, we are just not as busy as some of you would like at the moment! I have been with Savatage a very long time...my first tour was in support of the CD "Hall Of The Mountain King". The following CD was entitled "Gutter Ballet". The video for this song is played all the time on VH1 Classics. The band has sold millions of CD's and played for hundreds of thousands of fans world-wide. In 1995 I released a CD with Savatage singer Jon Oliva called Doctor Butcher. The CD was just re-released last year with new material world-wide on Black Lotus Records. Also in 1995 Savatage released a CD called "Dead Winter Dead". On this CD was a song called "Christmas Eve Sarajevo-12/24". This instrumental song was the spring board for the multi platinum Trans-Siberian Orchestra. I play lead guitar and M/C the live shows. We finished our 8th sold out tour...for the past 4 tours it has been all arenas...Madison Square Garden (Extra cool because our good friend Joan Jett came onstage and played "I Love Rock And Roll" with us during the encore!!), Greg Lake played Carneval 9 with us in Long Island and at the Continental Arena in Jersey and New Years Eve in Cleveland, John Anderson of Yes played "Roundabout" with us at the Spectrum in Philly and the legendary Ian Hunter played "Cleveland Rocks" and "All the Young Dudes" with us in Cleveland 2006! 2007 we had the legendary Roger Daltry play with us in NY and New Jersey! The last tour we sold over 1,100,000 tickets!
In January of 2004 I began pre-production for my very first solo CD ever. Recording began in February.
Jeff Plate took care of the drumming duties, Dave Z the bass and Paul Morris the keyboards and piano. The CD was recorded at Spin Studios in Astoria, NYCity. I produced the CD with co-producer/engineer Nik Chinboukas. The recording and mixing were finished in May of 2004. I then flew to Athens, Greece for the mastering and CD photo shoot. Many of the phots you see here are from the shoot. Thanks to Seth at Seth Design!! Because of the abundance of material I decided to record 30 songs. There are 2 CDs recorded. Faces and God Damn War.
In August of 2004 I flew to Germany to be a special guest for Doro Pesch at the 15th Anniversary of Wacken. The premier Heavy Metal Festival in Europe. I played 3 songs with Doro and her Classic Metal Orchestra. The performance was very memorable. The next night I also appeared as a special guest with Saxon. I got to play Denim and Leather with the band. As a huge fan, this was a great honor! I have been blessed to have so many great friends, I even got invited onstage to play "Killed By Death" with Motorhead in Austria!!! Those guys are my favorite Rock and Roll Stars!!!
The first single for Faces was released on September 1st, 2004 in Europe. It was called The Mold. It contained 3 songs from the release and 2 unreleased bonus tracks. It was a limited edition that I believe it has just about sold out everywhere!
I also released an EP called "Music Man". This CD has a few unreleased holiday songs I recorded. The sample for the one song "What Child Is This?" was downloaded over 300,000 on my web-site www.chriscaffery.com. The site is really cool and very active, our message board community is now over 4,500 people and growing rapidly. I keep studio diaries and daily thoughts there too as well as the main site which features many things including my photos, diaries and recipies!!!
I went back in the studio in early 2005 to finish the GDWar CD. The results were WARPED!!! This CD was released in Europe in June 2005, Sept. in the US. It is the full length version of my WAR CD! The CD contains 6 unreleased songs, one sung by Jon Oliva! It was a lost Doctor Butcher track called "Iraq Attack." It is in stores in the USA and the rest of the world right now! I am currently working on new material for my next CD. I am going to call it "Pins and Needles".
I did some European and American touring in support of "Faces" and "WARPED". The European tour was in support of the legendary Metal Church. The US was a 3 band bill consisting of Jon Oliva's Pain and Ripper Owen's new band Beyond Fear. It was great to get out and play my solo stuff live. "Pisses Me Off" is always the crowd favorite!!!
In addition to the bands I listed I have recorded with or written songs for many bands and artists including Circle II Circle, John West, Joe Lynn Turner, Metalium, Eidolon, Jon Oliva's Pain and more...For a complete list of my discography visit this page. http://www.chriscaffery.com/discography.htm I have also had a few special guest appearances in many friends DVD's including Cradle of Filth and Doro! In Summer of 2006 I did a brief tour playing guitar in the reunion of the band Spread Eagle. They are good friends and the tour was a lot of fun!
On February 8th of 2006 I entered the studio to begin working on my new CD "Pins and Needles". The European release date was March 23rd 2007 on Metal Heaven Records. The US release was June 5th on Locomotive Records. The 2006 TSO tour was tremendously successful. We performed for over one million people!! I played a couple shows in Germany this February as a special guest with Doro. Then I played a couple guest solos on the new CD by Jordi Sandalinas in Sweden. I returned to Europe for the first leg of Pins dates in April. The tour was with Kotipelto, featuring Timo the singer from Stratovarius. I remained in Europe to play lead guitar for Doro at a couple festivals. I also played the rest of her 2007 tour dates thru Sept 1st including the US run in June! My band opened the US tour as well! Double duty! I recently produced vocals in Italy for the band Merendine Atomiche. I also played guitar on the last Sandalinas CD and wrote music for the future release. As I write this it is February 2009. In 2008 I recorded and engineered my new solo CD "House Of Insanity". It was released on Digital in October. The Retail CD will be out soon! I also wrote and recorded a song for the new Ripper Owens solo CD due out soon on SPV Records. I will be doing some live shows soon, keep an eye out here for dates. The 2008/9 TSO Tour was another huge success. We played for over 1.2 million people. A true highlight was when Steven Tyler from Aerosmith came up to sing with us in New York and New Jersey!! I hope you all continue to enjoy the music!!! Thanks for your friendship and support!!!
