About

Carly and Mark are an exhilaratingly fresh and edgy acoustic folk-pop group from Toronto/Waterloo Ontario. Starting out as a duo, childhood friends Carly Blasutti (vocals) and Mark Hart (fingerstyle guitar/vocals), hit the ground running with their indie debut, 'Carly and Mark' in 2005. Describes as "sheer acoustic beauty" by indieheart.com, the disc earned Carly and Mark 3 Toronto Independent Music Award nominations including Best Song ("Dreamin' Of"), Best Female Fronted Group, and Best Live Acoustic Group!
Now performing as a quartet with acoustic bassist Bret Higgins (Beyond the Pale, the Great Lake Swimmers) and drummer Joshua Van Tassel (David Myles, The Outlanders), Carly and Mark just released 'New City Morning', a stunning album featuring the full band. The lead track 'Morning Light Praying' has already been named best folk song of 2008 by Toronto Exclusive Magazine, included in the Toronto Star's coveted 'Anti-Hit List'. and featured as a top 5 selection by Songwriter Universe Magazine. Blending folk, jazz, pop, and blues, the band creates a sonic tapestry featuring Carly's striking vocals and Marks consummate fingerstyle guitar, underscored throughout by lyrics that are at once poignant and light.

“It's tempting to compare the dynamic between singer Carly Blasutti and guitarist Mark Hart to that of folk-jazz duo Tuck and Patti, though perhaps with less overt virtuosity (and we mean that in a good way). This wistful leadoff track [Morning Light Praying] to their sophomore album perfectly captures the stillness of those rare moments of reflection when, for a few fleeting minutes, life seems both easy and crystal clear.”
-John Sakamoto, The Anti-Hit List, Toronto Star

"... an acoustic mix of inspirational creativity that will tickle your senses ... Speechless"
Target Audience Magazine

"There are songs of sweetness and light for the head and heart, but there also songs of grit and groove that make those little hairs on the back of your neck stand up and scream, “give me more of that.”
Doug Gallant, The Guardian
