Jessica Robbins - (Record Release) - Brendan Losch - MIchele McGuire Thursday 06/21/2012 8:00 PM |21+|$8.00|Listen Jessica Robbins wrote her first song in third grade about the distant and mysterious planet, Saturn. Today her songs focus the same sense of wonderment and reverie on subjects a little closer to the heart. The lively spirit of her upbeat tunes is infectious, while a ribbon of formidable resolve weaves through her songs of trouble and loss. In 2010 Jessica released her first album "Dear Fred" to positive reviews, and she has continued to play to admiring audiences all over her native Chicago. Time Out Chicago called Jessica a promising new artist and wrote that her “smart songs veer toward the folkier end of the rock spectrum but often recall the bite of Aimee Mann”. This June she will release a new EP, “Habitat”. Her songs explore the mysterious side of love, loss and zombies - Jessica truly enjoys the wild, electric combination of inspiration, spontaneity and music.
Holyoke - Arthi Meera - Brendan Losch Sunday 01/08/2012 8:00 PM |21+|$6.00|Listen Holyoke is an expression of songs by Joshua Pederson, a temporary resident of Iowa City, Iowa. With songs dissonant, sparse and dark as well as upbeat and bright, Joshua has traveled the continent with his guitar and the occasional friend or four, one dive at a time. Holyoke's touring and understanding of the music industry began to develop after Joshua dropped out of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2008. Having lost interest in the institution and concept of "art being right or wrong," Joshua took his songbook and rented a car, leaving his camera and tools to dust on a shelf for a few years. Over the course of the few years since, Holyoke has shared the stage with such acts as Lissie, the Good Life, the Elected, and An Horse, and has toured the Continental United States, Canada and Europe. Holyoke's last release is a cassette single entitled "Rachel's Song." Joshua is currently garnishing a collection of songs to be released by the Fall of 2012, entitled "The Willow and the Goat," immensely influenced by the experience of moving from a support structure in Minneapolis into solitude in Iowa, for a job.
