Breaking Glass started in the summer of 2007 as singer/songwriter Jonathan Facile broke a long musical hiatus and started focusing on writing and recording songs again. While never planning on playing the songs in anything more than an intimate acoustic environment, the songs started to develop their own momentum. Throughout the next year Jonathan formed a new band, and saw the evolution of his music become the musical entity “Breaking Glass”.

Jonathan had previously sang and played guitar in addition to writing he songs for the dark rock band “the Burning Ground” and the brit/pop influenced band “Kalos”. After Kalos disbanded, Jonathan continued to write and perform acoustic shows throughout Northern California, but after some time put his music on hold to pursue his spiritual studies and career goals. While always expressing himself through music, he never felt the need to perform his songs outside his close circle of friends. After getting into home recording with his computer, he started writing and recording songs again, which eventually led to him feeling the urge to perform on stage once more. The first person he knew he had to work with was long time friend and musical peer Cristos Giotes.

Jonathan and Cristos first met when Jonathan auditioned for a project Cristos was putting together some years before. While that project was not met to be, Cristos and Jonathan stayed in touch and often got together over the years to jam and discuss musical ideas. Unbeknownst to Jonathan, although Cristos was in another project with longtime band “Ardra”, after hearing Jonathan’s new songs he was hoping he’d have the chance to take on a side project and be part of the new project Jonathan was putting together. Jonathan was more than happy to find out Cristos was willing to join the new band.

Cristos Giotes is one of the most experienced - dynamic- drummers in Sacramento who has played in a band with just about every style ; Amphora, Los Gios, Mindphyhx, Ardra, Be Brave Bold Robot, F.L.O , and Breaking glass are just some of the various groups he has played with ranging from Latin Jazz to hardcore metal, Cristos brings a style that is powerful yet sensitive and can make any kind of genre that he pounds the skins to make you want to dance. Having vast studio experience Cristos is not only a drummer but a song writer, DJ, and promoter , Cristos brings serious drive and love to anything he touches.

The next person to join was guitarist Brandon Lee. Brandon had been playing and writing music since he was about 15. After several garage bands (rock, jazz, and metal), he moved to Sacramento to play in a working band called Azrael (later to be called Left Field). Growing tired of playing metal constantly, he wanted to revisit his more heart-felt and dynamic roots from several early subgenres of rock, punk, and pop music. The first try out was Stigma, a band that drew from post punk and industrial influences. He found it to be a step in the right direction, but still not feeling it the way he wanted it to. After Stigma broke up, he had the opportunity to join the Sacramento production of Hedwig and the Angry Inch, which gave him all of the glam and punk he desired. This lasted from 2005 through 2008, two shows of which were at a major venue (The Crest Theater). After Hedwig closed, he wanted to perform original material again, something like he’d been wanting for the past 6 years.

Brandon met Jonathan at a local indie dance club. He had heard that Jonathan was going to be doing some DJ work at one point, and thought to check it out. Hearing the set, he immediately was impressed at their similar tastes in music at the time. Later, finding out that Jonathan could sing and hearing his original material, Brandon became interested in joining up with him. After Jonathan expressed interest in collaborating toward the same goal, he signed up.

Finally rounding out the band was the beautiful and talented Emily Bein. Though she had little stage experience, and had never performed in a band before, Emily had been classically trained in piano and always dreamed of applying those talents in the context of a rock band. Primarily focusing on the visual arts and her writing for the past few years, when Jonathan heard her sing and play piano he was impressed with her abilities and charisma. With the rest of the band urging Jonathan to find a keyboardist, he soon invited her to start attending rehearsals and she quickly became an important part of the band’s sound. Soon she found a joy and a catharsis playing a key role in the band, and started applying herself diligently to her new love of expressing herself through music.

Through the next few months of rehearsing and writing, Jonathan’s originals songs began to take on a new life and sound, as each member began adding their own originality and style. Soon, the band was no longer an extension of Jonathan’s solo songwriting, but a genuine collaboration between the members. Becoming closer and closer as a band and as friends, the chemistry between them grew until they where truly ready to step upon the stage together, as the band Breaking Glass.
