Born in Harlem and raised on the Upper West Side of NYC, Bobby made his first appearance with Sonny Rollins at Carnegie Hall in 1977 at the age of 16. By the time he was 21, Broom had played with Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers and debuted as a leader, recording "Clean Sweep" for GRP Records.
