“Black Cherry, aka singer Megane Quashie and producer Gui Fraisse, formed in 2007 and set about playing every music festival in the UK. Momentum was building when the band decided to take a break following the death of their guitarist Rob Moore in 2009, re-emerging a year later to play SXSW and tour the US. Their new single, One Another/Lost in the System, is a double A-side due on 29 August.
While Lost in the System is a fairly pedestrian indie jangle, One Another showcases their playful side, featuring lashings of synths, at least two brilliant choruses and a kind of joyful abandon that most bands bury beneath archness. "You got to hold on to what you got," Quashie yelps as the song reaches its climax, which is pretty good advice really.”
