Pianist, composer, and bandleader Ben Geyer provides a refreshing, new voice to the jazz community. He has been playing the piano for fifteen years (professionally since 2001) and doubles on keyboards and vocals. Ben has performed with Kevin Mahogany, Claudia Acuña, Jane L. Powell, and has sat in with Sean Jones on the New York jazz scene. Always rooted in jazz, his compositions range from multi-movement suites to blues tunes, and sometimes borrow from the worlds of classical, rock, and R&B.
Ben formed and led the New England-based cover band, The Gate, which performs regularly in Nashua, NH and Boston, MA. He has played with pop acts at venues including Boston Common in Boston, MA, The Middle East in Cambridge, MA and Studio A in Miami, FL. Ben performed in a Los Vegas-style cirque show called Dreamagination, a Galaxy Entertainment Production, at Riverwind Casino in Norman, OK. Norwegian Cruise Lines hired him in two separate contracts—on the Pride of America in Hawaii and the Majesty in the Caribbean. Ben will spend this summer in Williamsburg, VA, playing in the Starlight Orchestra, the resident big band at Busch Gardens.
Ben holds a Bachelor of Music in Studio Music and Jazz, Magna Cum Laude with General University Honors, from the University of Miami (FL). Among his many world-class jazz instructors, Ben studied classical piano with Ivan Davis (a student of Vladimir Horowitz) for two years. He is currently working towards a Master of Music in Jazz Studies at Purchase College, State University of New York, where his teachers include Hal Galper and Jon Faddis.
