Backmask began when vocalist/guitarist/producer Shane McFee recorded and distributed a demo to recruit band members. With the addition of bassist Richard Chapleau in 2006, Backmask recorded and released the critically acclaimed full-length album Dark Fiber. Combining melodic deathmetal roots with industrial, progressive, symphonic, black metal, and folk influences, the album was hailed as a breath of fresh air in the increasingly stale American metal scene.
