Only two EPs were necessary for Checkmate to become a favorite on the parisian metal scene.
D’or et D’acier, its second EP - recorded by Stéphane Buriez and released in 2009 - gave them the opportunity to go from show to show and to build a strong stage reputation. They started a one-year tour with more than 25 shows, sometimes opening for bands such as The Arrs, L'Esprit Du Clan, Viza or Dagoba. This tour made a strong impression and in particular on the French music press.
At the beginning of 2011, Checkmate hits the studio to record their first album titled Immanence. This first work is a mature concept-album that combines a spontaneous writing with an impressive attention to detail and moves its listener while refusing the classic metal label. The album is produced by Guyom Pavesi (Devianz, The Prestige, Dead Sea Lions).
« Immanence » : state of a cause that acts on itself. By switching between extreme power and aerial atmospheres, Checkmate throws the listener into a universe that will directly moves him.
Ten tracks, ten different ways to wonder about our own immanence and to find the strenght that drives us. Being both personnal and rallying, Immanence gives to everyone the possibility to find a bit of himself on this record. But it is above all an album built for the stage and that will undoubtly strike its listeners.
