Claxton Creek / Bio

In early 2007 a chance meeting brought John Vandiver and Tracy Wells together. Musically they fit together like a hand and a glove, albeit that John cut his teeth on standard bluegrass and Tracy on everything from Ralph Stanley to Bone Thugs and Harmony.

Both were Wise County, Virginia natives and both had a passion for singing and songwriting and bringing a little of themselves to everyone around them. John introduced Tracy to bluegrass and Tracy introduced hinm to progressive bluegrass as she 'won him over to the dark side', she says. Within a little over a year they were husband and wife and spending the majority of their time writing and playing together at small local venues. John played with a few bands in the area before landing a gig with a Rural Rhythm alumni, Josh Slone & CoalTown. John recorded the debut CD with the group but soon found that his heart was in playing music with his wife.

They recently released their first EP entitled "Roots" and have plans for a full length album in the fall.

"This EP is just what it says, more roots type music, meaning more traditional type bluegrass and country." Tracy says. "I would tell any fans who like more nontraditional music to wait for the LP it will show more of our true inspiration."

The duo certainly have a lengthly list of songs to choose from having written more than their share of original tunes. "We're always willing to share if the right person comes along," Tracy says. That includes sharing both their haunting melodies and their own harmonies. Listening to these two is a journey of the soul and the senses, from the sugary sweet vocals and harmonies to the gritty tunes that make you want to get out of your seat, these two will not disappoint.
