Jelly Bread’s musical alchemy blends an alt-rock radio appeal that pulls from rock, soul and funk, yet is thoroughly steeped in a swampy Americana style. The band’s chameleonic playlist is highlighted by dual vocals, four part harmonies, in-the-pocket drum and bass grooves, swampy lap steel guitar, dirt under the fingernails guitar licks, and take-’em-to-church organ that is downright appetizing.
Jelly Bread is fronted by award-winning songwriter, vocalist, guitarist and lap steel player, Dave Berry, along side songwriter, vocalist and beast of a drummer, Cliff Porter. Dave and Cliff have known each other since childhood, having grown up in the same neighborhood and attended the same schools. A few years back, Dave and Cliff began playing music together and realized the potential of joining musical forces. Brady Carthen, Cliff’s long time rhythm partner, stepped in and has been the band’s pillar on bass. With the recent addition of Eric Matlock on keys, Jelly Bread emerged with a high-energy calling card that has band delving into more extensive touring throughout the western United States.
The band has performed opening duties for the likes of Robert Randolph and the Family Band, Robert Cray, Dragon Smoke (members of Galactic), Ivan Neville's Dumpstaphunk, moe., G Love and the Special Sauce.
The schedule has also been highlighted by festival appearances to include Joshua Tree, Strawberry Music Festival, High Sierra Music Festival, and Cascadia Music Festival. Opening duties on tap in the coming months include shows with Robert Randolph and the Family Band and The Robert Cray Band.
